The Fall waitlist closed a week or so ago. Now it looks like Spring will close soon.
I know this thread is for last year, but curious if you think my daughterâs stats would put her in the auto admit for this year. She is in state applying EA. She has a 35 ACT (34 math 36 english), 4.0 unweighted school gpa/4.4 UGA gpa and 8 AP and 4 DE. Think this is strong enough?
We visited UGA with my DD24. We all thought we would love it, but had similar observations. Lot of homeless folks, including wandering through campus. Very poorly maintained housing right next to campus. Athens itself was just meh. Buses so full that we gave up and walked the 30 minutes to the one rec center on campus. Intermural fields felt very isolated and I remember telling my daughter never to go to the fields alone. Unfortunately, Laken Riley was killed running near the IM fields just a week or two later. There was also an attempted armed robbery of a student for her phone the evening we were there. I was secretly relieved when DD chose Virginia Tech. Parts of campus are nice - the new student center is gorgeous, football stadium in the middle of campus is pretty cool and the new dining hall was very good. DD26 is deciding whether to apply.
This is on my daughterâs list just because itâs a border state and she was adding a few schools and she has some friends there. She has a 34 ACT and a 4.0 gpa with 10 APs and 4 de and 10 honors. Iâm hoping she just drops it because the deadline is going to be a crunch for her and she has better options. Even if she gets in there wonât be the money there. Have heard safety issues from people in real life as well as on this board.
No way to tell and it doesnât really matter if they are admitted without review or file is reviewed (they review lots of files who are subsequently admitted for EA). My guess is your child will be admitted EA though absent a red flag somewhere in their file and may get an honors invite as well. Good luck!
I agree with Charmagfan.
Toured the summer of 2023 with DS24 and DD26. We pulled up to park and the first thing both myself and my daughter noticed was the overgrown shrubbery on campus on walking paths. My daughter read my mind and told me « no one would see me if⊠». This was before Riley Larkin. It was a definite no for my daughter.
While our tour guide was showing us the quad there was a homeless person sleeping right in the middle of it. Tour guide just ignored it.
Around the campus, Athens has nice shopping but the smell of marijuana everywhere and homeless people distract from it.
The scholarships from UGA are from the state lottery and therefore state residents are highly preferred. They do not have many endowments to fund OOS scholarships. While we were there, we met with the scholarship coordinator and she said my DS24 ( 35ACT, 4 year 3 sport athlete, varsity athlete, class president) would get nothing bc we were out of state.
