It said on the site it could take up to a week to see the letter of admission.
Yes, same error I get
This table makes sense. When my son visited UIUC physics dept last spring, he learnt that number of physics seats were increased since last year due to its demand and UIUC physics is ranked 9 by US news and ranking. My son was quite drawn to UIUC physics after talking to few research students and profs. Similarly he was very impressed with UT as well. He got into both in physics major. UT physics is much smaller class compared to UIUC and decision is upto him. It costs more or less the same as OOS. Thank you for sharing this chart!
OOS deferred for Math and CS. 4.0 UW/4.4 W, 1530 SAT, 8 APs, CS research under professor at T50 uni, decent/good essays imo
Only a few kids at my school (2 or 3) besides me got deferred for CS at my school, so do I have a good chance for RD? I put my electrical engineering as my second choice so will they consider that as well?
Yes, but UofI will only consider you for your second choice if you get denied for your first. Since you were deferred, you wonât know definitively until they make a decision on your first choice major.
In same boat here with deferral and Iâm a bit confused. First choice was business, 2nd choice exploratory studies. Do you a deferral means deferred from business or deferred from exploratory? Business a lot harder I think so wondering if it was a denial for biz but deferred for exploratory.
Anyone else notice that the deferral decision date changed from early March to Feb 28?
Were you in the ballpark for Gies? If not, then you can probably assume deferral for exploratory, but I do not know for sure.
In state, 32 ACT, 3.9 gpa so itâs probably a bit of a stretch for Gies. Was in the engineering program in high school but thought business was easier to get into
Also deferred here, website says that both choices will be considered but as to which one they got hung up on I have no idea. Its been explained to me that they only start considering you for the second choice after youâve been denied from the first but to my knowledge there is no way to know if youâve been denied from that first choice.
From Illinois admissions:
You were strongly considered for your first choice; however, we simply didnât have room for all qualified applicants. Youâre still considered wait listed for your first choice. If space becomes available in this major later on, weâll let you know even if youâve declined your offer.

So far, accepted to UIUC, UMich, Purdue, Case Western, Clemson, deferred at GT. Visiting programs throughout the month. Feeling grateful.
Is that for a specific situation or is that everyone that was offered their 2nd choice? For S25, it said denied for 1st choice. I had assumed they all said that since they donât admit 2nd choice unless 1st is denied. Has anyone who got accepted to 2nd choice end up getting their 1st choice later on?
That is for everyone. It is from their FAQ about second choice majors. You do not get considered for your second choice unless denied for first. As to your second question, I do not know, but I doubt it with the number of applicants they have. Obviously it is possible that their yield would be lower than expected and they would then go to those students who were offered a second choice major.
where did you see that?
I read that deferral notes, stone cold as it could be, will simply wait it out, no expectations.
Original deferral notice on portal said â⊠Your decision will be posted early MarchâŠâ
When re-read on Feb 2, said â⊠Your decision will be posted on February 28âŠâ
Makes sense, since Feb 28 is RD date on website.
My D is not engineering, but from a similarly âimpactedâ major, and OOS, not expecting much, but always some hope at these schools that donât defer almost everyoneâŠ
Whereâd you find that intel?
End of Feb is sooo much better than end of March for rest of the schools.
But for people like us, who are counting every second (perhaps nano seconds)âitâs an excruciating wait nonetheless.
How are you all coping up with this wait? Itâs killing me⊠lol.
Totally sucks for me, my D is too busy with school & swim teamâŠ
Due to overload, timing of our workloads, we have only visited 3 of 15 schools she applied to. Our 1st opportunity to do one stage of the grand tour will be in March. I was hoping things would be more definitive at this point⊠there are 3 acceptances we haveât visited yet, 3 deferrals, and 6 not yet at initial decision point.
Had hoped weâd be further along, but par for the whole process. At least for usâŠ
