<p>UMCP is a good school; there is no doubt of that and it has come a long way from the essentially open admissions school it was in the 70’s. </p>
<p>UMCP may consider UNC its academic rival; I can assure you UNC-CH does not. Then again, the schools are so different. UMCP has a very good engineering program, something that UNC does not. </p>
<p>UMCP should be a University of Michigan given that it is located next to DC. But it is not. This is the result of the Maryland legislature beginning in the 60’s year after year pouring millions into the corrupt welfare state known as Baltimore City (as opposed to funding a world class university), and the aforementioned unfortunate location in PG County. </p>
<p>Being fair, however, Maryland has come a long way. Certain students should clean up their act there, though when it comes to sports events. It gives them a bad name. Peer pressure works, and it would be helpful.</p>
