I am noticing a lot of these posts are engineering, CS and business majors. I am (naively, I admit) hoping this was just one round for those majors? It’s entirely possible others aren’t posted who got them in other intended majors but…maybe??
Our kid is in Smith and SBLF, invited to FIRE. He did receive a great presidential scholarship, but he is not in Carillon, so I don’t know if that affects anything differently.
I don’t know. My daughter is in Smith and Carillon. I’m just hoping they’re going in alphabetical order and haven’t come to her name yet.
My daughter who received the Presidential scholarship last night is an Animal Science major.
My younger daughter, who is a junior in HS wants to study to be a vet, is thinking about majoring Animal Science when she applies in the fall. If it’s ok can you provide your daughter’s stat ?
Thanks in advance!
Out of state student
4.0 weighted gpa, Test Optional
Honor Society
5 AP classes / Honors classes
Varsity Track & Field for 3 years
Animal Shelter Volunteer
Paid work experience at a barn
Thank you. Will she commit to UMD ? Since she has great stats, I’m sure there are many other options to choose.
I am not sure. Even with the scholarship it is still very expensive. Unfortunately she was deferred from out top two state schools.
NY state schools also do not have animal science programs so if she attends one she would have to major in biology.
Nope, all partial merit awards (president’s and dean’s) went out. Only the full vs. partial BK awards go out by April 1.
After the Honors appeal, we weren’t expecting any merit anyway. The appeal gave us a view of the caliber of kids they were admitting into the business school. I knew business was a competitive major, but it was eye-opening on how competitive it could get.
Business this year is extremely competitive. Our counselor said it was a tough year even for high stat kids for this field.
My son is Smith Business School and Carillon and he heard yesterday that he received a Presidential Scholarship. We are OOS.
thank you for sharing. We have not heard yet, we are also OOS. Keeping fingers crossed!
@STEMX said it all came out already.
I will uncross the fingers then…
I’m disappointed too.
Is there somewhere on the Terps portal to check if one has been awarded any scholarship? I know in Indiana U or other schools there is a menu option to check the scholarship one has received. Just curious…
I don’t think there is anything on the portal. Called Financial Aid, referred to Admissions, waited 15 minutes to connect, and the person there was absolutely NOT helpful. Could not check anything – merit awards, still has residency incorrect as out of state, told me to send an email to admissons. What’s the point of answering the phone? Regretting I live in Maryland. Should have moved to Virginia or Pennsylvania a long time ago. With merit, other States have better deals even considering out of state tuition.
The grass always seems greener on the otherside. I moved to VA almost 20 years ago, thinking my kids would go to VA colleges. But my oldest went to UMBC/Georgetown. Now the youngest wants to go to UMD/Georgetown. I wished I had just stayed in MD.
In my daughter’s application portal under Admitted student checklist, it shows her merit award and there’s also a tab to accept the offer of admission and invitation to Carillon Communities Program.
