University of Maryland (UMD) College Park Early Action 2024

i got the email for that form but i’m not sure that it’s correlated with admissions…i did summer classes there so i thought it was some sort of tax thing from that. but that would be cool if it meant we got in!

Everyone that applied paid a fee no.matter if they are accepted or not. No sure a tax form would mean much.

We didn’t

I wonder how many students are selected to get a visit from the TERPS bus. I wonder how they decide which students to visit? It is a great idea. Just curious about it.

I am an applicant for EA at Maryland and got no email about a tax form. I am 100% freaking out but is it really a major concern or not? Please, someone, let me know!

@joebar I really don’t think this is a concern as a 1098 t refers to credits paid for during the PREVIOUS tax year so it wouldn’t have anything to do with future students. Could have been made in error-another university sent something financial to my daughter and then several hours sent an email apologizing for the mixup. Just my opinion. My daughter didn’t receive one either.

I did not get that tax form. I’m super nervous. When do you all think admissions are coming out? There’s a bunch of speculations going around. I’m super nervous. A lot of the people on here are parents, which I found kinda weird, cause my parents only looked at my application to sign the one part.

This could be a stretch but last year the Maryland Admissions tweeted out “ As a reminder, students who applied by the November 1 early action deadline will receive admission decisions by February 1. Students will receive an email when their decision is available to be viewed in their MyCoalition account. #NowATerp” a day before they released decisions and they tweeted it out today so it’s possible tomorrow 1/26 is the big day

@mabdullahnk are you suggesting the decisions could be out on a Sunday ?

Not sure what the form is but this is the IRS explanation:

Who gets the 1098-T form

Schools must send Form 1098-T to any student who paid “qualified educational expenses” in the preceding tax year. Qualified expenses include tuition, any fees that are required for enrollment, and course materials required for a student to be enrolled. If someone else pays such expenses on behalf of the student (like a parent), the student still gets “credit” for them and therefore gets the 1098-T. Schools must send the form to the student by January 31 and file a copy with the IRS by February 28.

@Jerzyboyz2 does this form have anything to do with the application decisions.

If I recall correctly, my older son received the tax form because UMD had waived his application fee. I would be very surprised if receiving it has any relation to an admissions decision. OTOH, students whose application fee was waived are likely to be strong candidates, so there could be a correlation (but not receiving one would not be a predictor).

@mabdullahnk: I don’t want to be a naysayer here but if you scroll further back on the Maryland Admissions Twitter feed, they tweeted that out twice, once on the day of the #NowATerp bus notifications and then a few days later prior to the decisions coming out.

I stand by my earlier posts, since the last Friday in January this year is January 31st, I think they will release decisions on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I don’t think they will wait until the 31st to release decisions because if there is any technical difficulties or other complications they would be breaking their promise of all Decisions out by Feb 1st.

When you log into your mycoalition account and see the list of schools you’ve applied to (where it shows the “view submission and checklist” buttons, does it say “Early Action” next to Fall 2020? This is under or next to where it says “First Year Application”.

It does for my Rutgers application, but not for my UMD one. Now I’m worried I didn’t make it into the EA group.

@Mrusso352 Mine doesn’t say it there but I know I applied EA since my application complete date is before the EA deadline so I wouldn’t worry. As long as all of your materials were submitted before the deadline you should be part of the EA pool.

@rosteknology Thank you!

I really hope I’m considered for early action, but my application was completed on November 7 and submitted on November 1.

Just chill everyone and expect it on Jan 31. That’s most likely when it’s coming.

Nobody should expect to hear a decision today. Colleges never release decisions on weekends, they only release decisions on weekdays. I’d honestly predict either Tuesday or Friday if I’m going to be entirely honest. Another thing, I really don’t think that the form has anything to do with admissions. I don’t see how it would have any correlation and I’ve never received such a form from any of the other schools that I’ve gotten into thus far. There’s no “loophole” to find out whether or not we got in. None of us will know for sure until the day comes when they release the decisions so I don’t think it’s worth the extra anxiety to panic over little things that haven’t been proven.
