University of Maryland (UMD) College Park Early Action 2024

@zss203484 I agree with you about not hearing today, but 2 years ago, DS got a decision on a Saturday, so some colleges do release on weekends.

True but that rarely ever happens, let alone on a Sunday. I applied to 12 schools this year and 11/12 of them I heard back on a weekday. The 12th school being Maryland of course. I noticed that Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday’s tend to be a common decision release date for many colleges based on what I’ve experienced and have witnessed with my friends. Therefore, I’m betting on one of those days.

From what I’ve found on their Instagram page, in 2015, the last Friday of January was on the 30th and they released decisions on Monday, the 26th. I couldn’t find when decisions were released in 2014 but I doubt it was on the 31st. There’s a chance decisions could be released tomorrow but I think Tuesday might be more likely

I don’t know why they can’t just tell us, especially since they’re not rolling admissions.

Also in 2014 decisions came out the 28th, even though the 31st was the last Friday of that month.

@rosteknology - In 2014, My D got her acceptance notice on January 28. It was not a Friday.

But that was before UMD started using the Coalition App and before they started the Tour Bus tradition.

Ah well that gives more of a chance of decisions releasing before Friday then

does UMCP include merit scholarship offer when releasing acceptance result? if no, when?

R.I.P. Kobe and Gigi

@onelittleredfrog - Merit scholarships are Not included in the admission decisions. They will be sent by mail a few weeks later.

2 questions I’m hoping someone on here can answer

  1. Does your awarded merit aid come with your admission letter or on a later date?
  2. Is it hard to get into LEP programs at Maryland?

Merit scholarships are Not included in the admission decisions. They will be sent by mail a few weeks later.

LEPs exist because UMD has more applicants for each one than they can accommodate in the Fall term. There are always applicants who are denied admission. However, Internal Transfers are usually possible.

Should we expect to receive an email about the decision or find out the decision on line (Coalition website)?

@xiaobaomama2020 You’ll get an email but it might be delayed. I’d check Coalition around 4:45-5 and also keep an eye on their social media pages. Bear in mind that the site will most likely take a while to load once decisions are released since everyone’s going to be checking them at the same time

I predict it will be super easy to tell when actual decisions are released.

How?

This thread will catch on fire and when you log on it will come up with 50 new posts in the thread. That will probably be my best clue that it’s time to look.

Can we expect decisions today? My Coalition checklist still shows, for anyone that has been through this before, does the checklist go away on decision day?

Past years, the checklist button has disappeared and reappeared the day decisions came out.

Many are asking about financial and scholaship notification. The timeline goes something like this:

  1. This week Admission information only (EA applicants). This will include program admission (Honors, Scholars, LEP) but no aid of any type will be included. Many (probably most) accepted to Honors will get some merit aid. Range from $4,500 x 2 years - up to full ride.) But you won’t find out now. Honors and Scholars will ask you to select your prefernces for Living Learning experience. They are limited to around 75 - 100 each based on your qualifications. In Honors, ACES (computer science) and ILS (pre-med and biology) are the toughest to get in. ei. If you didn’t get a 5 on AP Bio most everyone in ILS did. They want you to choose your Liv Learn Exp soon but this does NOT mean you have committed to UMD.
  2. Early to Mid February invitaions go out to interview for Banneker Key Scholarship. Everyone who gets this invitation will get either 1/2 or full ride. Good news is they offer hundreds of these. Bad news is Maryland attracts hundreds of AMAZING applicants. It is very, very selective. 4.0 and 1600 alone will not get you one.
  3. In March financial aid packets will come out with the rest of the merit aid and need based financial aid.

So what do we think? Any chance it’s coming today?

My only expertise is 25 family members. All current students and alumni. No idea of release time. Changes every year based on calendar and work load. Only firm time line is
