@KPat10 SAT score is not everything to many of these schools. I will tell you that following the process for the last couple of years that there is no science to this process. I had some shocking results when my son applied (mostly positive, but the biggest shock was negative).
I believe that things happen for a reason, and if your son doesn’t get accepted, then it isn’t where he was meant to be. I know it is such a stressful process; I am embarking on it all over again with my daughter, who is a Jr in HS who is already feeling a tremendous amount of stress.
One thing you can do is look at the threads from last year to find the results of students similar to your son. Naviance (many HS use this) and Cappex are also useful tools for comparison purposes.
Keep the faith. I’m sending positive energy your way!
Late January in recent years. Website says by Feb.1
Good luck! My D20 instate has ACT 33 superscore, 3.7 GPA, ecs in drama, Cyberpatriots, part time job. Hopefully good enough.
UMD uses a single application for all EA decisions, including merit aid.
Each application can go through as many as 4 different admissions committees as follows:
Admission to UMD, (Fall or Spring)
Admission to the Honors College
Applicants reviewed for the Honors College, but not admitted may get
3) Admission to the Scholars Program
Admission to Limited Enrollment Programs. This may or may not be done in parallel with the Honors/Scholars reviews. I just don’t know.
There are also reviews for LLCs and Merit Scholarships - BK. Presidents and Deans Scholarships The scholarship notifications do not come out with the Admissions decisions, but come out a few weeks later.
UMD probably gets over 25,000 Early Applications. It just takes time to do it all.
I was wondering same about the results.
Everything about UMd-CP is a blackhole. No info and no response to emails. Wish they have a portal like everyone else - it gives a feel of being informed and in the loop.
In the last application cycle (2018-2019), my son was notified via email, by UMaryland, on January 25, 2019 to check his coalition portal for a decision on his priority admission; I think the timing might be similar for this cycle, mid to late January.
My daughter. who is OS, just finished her first semester at UMD. She was accepted for Spring admit but was part of the Freshman Connection so she actually started in the fall.(FC is a greet program…highly recommend if you are a spring admit). I just wanted to mention that grades and scores are not all that matters. UMD looks at everything. My daughter’s GPA was 3.9 and her SAT score was 1170. With these numbers she was accepted at 9 or her 10 colleges with the 10th one being a waitlist. I wish everyone luck at the end of January when the decisions come out. My daughter LOVES UMD…GO TERPS!
Another Freshman Connection parent here. FC was a wonderful transition to college life for my DS. I was actually hoping he would be placed in FC as opposed to a Fall admit. Smaller classes, great advising. He is thriving at UMD. Now he is a junior with a high gpa and active in Greek life. I don’t understand why some people view FC negatively. Good luck to all!
