Can someone chance me? I have a 3.9 W 3.4 UW, 1240 GPA (I know it’s low ugh), 6 AP classes + other honors, 2 national honor societies, 5 awards (3 national), hundreds of hours of community service locally & abroad, 2 jobs for over a year, 5 clubs (with leadership), and more ECs. My stats aren’t that good compared to other people in this thread, but I attend a very rigorous high school and did not prepare for the SAT. I have a very strong essay which hopefully helps make up for it. I am also Latino and first generation if that helps.
My son is also freshmen connection. It was a great way for him to transition to a large university. His classes were smaller and he liked the late classes. We will see how he does next semester with a 10 am class.
UMD usually releases decisions the last Friday in January.
Bobcat, I know other kids with similar stats who were spring admits last year. Essays and extracurriculars do help.
Go Terps!
OOS, 33 ACT (34 superscore), 4.2 GPA out of 4.5 unweighted, 2 varsity sports, multiple EC, apply undeclared major. Hoping for Merit and Honors college.
Anyone know how Maryland communicates admission? Does everything come solely through the coalitionapp/email? Or is there a portal, like every other university in the world?!
@droppinknowledge - When decisions come out, students will get an email telling them to check their Coalition Portal. That is where the decisions will be posted.
does anyone know if the honors college just considers SAT/gpa or if leaderships and ecs matter too?

Any thoughts from prior admissions experience would be helpful.
@PurpleLlama066 @Schoolish @Ravenrob - Here is a link to last year’s decision thread where the decisions start showing up. You may find it informative
thanks @SoofDad, but I wasn’t able to figure out if the honors college is jsut based of SAT/GPA or Ecs too
@PurpleLlama066 - ECs. LORs. and Essays are all considered for Honors and Scholars, in addition to SAT/GPA.
thank you! @SoofDad, just confirming subject tests aren’t considered even if sent right?
To my knowledge, UMD does not require or consider SAT Subject tests.
@SoofDad Thanks for your response. One other thing that you might be aware of and can answer for me. My son’s Coalition Application shows that his application was submitted on October 30th which is before the EA deadline but his application complete date is November 7th.
Everything that I have read in the FAQs for admissions is that all documentation can take up to two weeks to be received but must be sent/postmarked before EA deadline. I presume he will be part of the EA decisions?
Thanks in advance.
@Ravenrob - I would also assume so, but, to be safe, you could call UMD admissions after the first of January to make sure.
@Ravenrob, it is the same for my son. I wouldn’t worry about it since the submit date is before the due date and the other required docs were submit in a timely manner.
@Ravenrob you are probably fine. My son was worried, because his received date was posted as Nov. 6., even though we had a Nov. 1 submission date…I ended up calling UMD undergrad admission office, and he confirmed that he met EA deadline, and would be considered for EA admissions.
@Whiskey6920 @droppinknowledge Thanks!!! That makes me feel better about that. I thought I was the only one who worried about this.
OK, so now here is another question for this board:
Last year UMD released ED notifications on January 25th which was the last Friday in January.
This year (2020) January has 5 Fridays which makes the last Friday of the month January 31st. Now that is still considered before February 1.
Anyone want to guess which Friday it will be? January 24th or January 31st?
Daughter applied EA.
Rank: top 20% not sure exactly as school does not give specific rank but only %
GPA UW 3.8 (or there about) GPA W 4.4
AP Scholar, many AP and Honors, Very Strong EC’s and community involvement and leadership and 4 year multisport varsity athlete etc. etc.
Her only downfall was the dreaded SAT for some reason it does not reflect her academic rigor and success and has been a thorn in her side at 1310.
So its just a wait and see for now.
Good luck all!
