But yes I also wonder why not more direct clarity especially this week and definitely today…?
I’m sure he is just required to say that in the event of technical difficulties or whatever.
UMD had a well publicized bus tour last weekend with a marching band letting a select few student know they were admitted. They put that out all over Twitter. Then, they went radio silent for nearly the next week. Did they really think that wouldn’t make the other applicants and parent anxious?
I agree @BeefStew. Messaging with customers is very important and I imagine if even 2 people associated with this thread get in (and I hope all will) that that would be a significant customer. So I just feel, and will express this to Admissions after the fact, that even if we couldn’t have a clear cut answer there should have been better customer oriented messaging for those EA’s that had to wait an additional week. Really poor customer service. If we all weren’t applying in such bulk they’d have much bigger problems.

Agreed…even if UMD said they were aiming for a specific date but it could be later, that would help people manage expectations and hopefully avoid a million calls to their office. Dean J has been fantastic…I came across her posts last night and wish MD did the same.

@Mihiled Not really. being a state school, I don’t think they really care about legacy. My brother went there and also I don’t think there is any section to specify whether your siblings went to school there.
I strongly believe they will release decisions today at 5pm. Cleaver to do so on a Friday so they are not overwhelmed with phone calls.
Looking over the last couple of years the release has been on the last Friday in January at around 4:45 pm. I would assume this year will be the same.
It’s after 12pm and the “Checklist” has not disappeared. Please tell me that UMD is not actually releasing the decisions TOMORROW…on a Saturday. Sigh! 
I’m pretty sure the checklist disappeared at 12 only in 2019, not any other years … so doesn’t mean anything until it’s around 5pm

Honestly, if this is how they treat us when we are prospective students when they should be trying to convince us to come to their school, but if they don’t care about us now, then like i feel like they really won’t care about me once they have my money, and idk if i’m about that. i feel like this entire application process has just been really off-putting anyone else get what i’m saying?
Absolutely! This is my third time thru the process as a parent, and so thankful my older 2 passed on Maryland. Literally been thru the process with 30+ other schools and Maryland is by far the worst. Wait until those poor students who have their Maryland application marked as COMPLETE find out it really isn’t complete and they need to wait even longer to find out the decision!!!
I also know someone who applied early action last year and didn’t get his decision until the end of February.
Ugh, probably put him out of contention for Banneker/Key support at UMD.
I don’t understand why you guys are complaining so much. They legit said on their website they will release by Feb 1. The only frustrating part is people saying it’s gonna come out sooner and it never does. They aren’t “treating us poorly”, that’s utterly ridiculous.
I agree with you @KennyConway 100 percent. Having dealt with other schools waiting process and how they handle those “anxiously” waiting is very different in some cases so I think it totally does matter.
