The UMD Fall 2025 Freshman Application is live, per their Facebook page
This is the official thread for those applying EA to University of Maryland (UMD).
List your unweighted GPA, any SAT /ACT scores, and ECs. What majors are you going into?
Ask your questions, the CC community is here to help!
Did they get rid of the supplemental essays? They used to have 6 "complete the sentence’ in 650 characters or less and I cannot find them.
I sure hope so! My S25 is drowning in supplementals.
They’re still there. I just reviewed them with a student this past weekend.
Where did you find them? I don’t see them anywhere on the list of requirements
Within the UMD application, under “Questions” there’s a section called “Short Answer”.
For what it’s worth, both my older son (currently at UMD) and my younger (accepted for spring admit, but enrolled elsewhere) had extremely short responses for the complete the sentences portion. No more than one or two sentences, and in some cases, just a few words. I truly believe students don’t need to spend a ton of time on these. Rather, they should just dig deep and answer with something honest, interesting, and that speaks to who they are.
Hi everyone! We would like to make everyone aware that there is also a place for parents of University of Maryland - UMD Class of 2029 applicants on FB. The prospective group has lots and lots of parents and staff to help you navigate the entire experience from application to acceptance - and everything in between. All you have to do is follow the link https://www.facebook.com/groups/umdparentsprospective and answer the questions. All prospective parents of any year are welcome, but it has to be clear that you are actually a prospective parent.
A lot of information and and experiences are posted there and you will get your answers answered very quickly. Sending much luck to all Class of 2029 UMD hopefuls!
Remember that UMd takes a very high proportion of students from EA. I can’t find the link but the number is exceptionally high (like 80-90% IIRC) and you need everything in by the strict Nov 1 deadline for EA and to be considered for LEPs and merit aid.
Be sure to look at the 2024 UMD EA thread.
Here are some additional statistics from the institutional research site.
I highly recommend this group. It was a great resource for me when my son was applying (back when the group was for class of 2027).
Still there. My child is finishing them up today.
Has anyone submitted and had their application downloaded by UMD?
My son has applied to 5 schools and UMD is the only one that hasn’t been downloaded the college. Admissions said they are having problems with their portal. I know it’s still early. We will follow up in a week or so but am just wondering if others have had success with the college downloading their application getting access to the portal.
We are IS and we really want to make sure that nothing goes wrong.
App downloaded by UMD today. 4 more months until a decision
Welcome aboard.
We are driving to UMd right now for Parents weekend.
My oldest is a senior at UMD now.
My S24 is a freshman in Gov&Politics. Any advice?
My daughter is a STEM major but is considering law school now. Not sure if your kid is thinking maybe of law school in the future but if so, consider getting the Law and Society minor. You have to have X credits to apply (it’s on their website- can’t remember offhand) and the minor application process is only open for a short period of time in the spring. My daughter applied as a sophomore. The minor requires students to obtain a legal internship which can be somewhat eye opening particularly if your child has not been exposed to the profession. Also make sure that your child gets to know a few professors since law schools require 2 LOTR.
On a fun note, my daughter and BF really like the following restaurants if you are looking for places to eat this weekend…
The Hall
Franklins
Spot Mini
Thanks for the ideas. We were staying little north of campus near IKEA and we ended up at Mamma Lucia for dinner and Milk & Honey for brunch.
