University of Maryland (UMD) Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

I’m familiar with Mamma Lucia but I’ve never been to the one at CP. I didn’t know it existed.

Milk and Honey sounds like an interesting restaurant name though I’ve never heard of it either. Was it good?

Milk & Honey is a southern take on everything. Very good.

Burtons, Iron Rooster, and GrillMarx are also excellent. Burtons is probably my favorite of the three, but all are great places. Iron Rooster also has a great breakfast.

Common app question: D25 is taking one dual enrollment class as a senior and a few APs. The UMD common app questions ask how many college credits she is currently taking. Is it just one for the dual enrollment (and not the APs)? Also, it says that a final transcript must be submitted for all college courses even if incomplete. Are we correct that this doesn’t refer to classes currently in progress? Thanks!

Good questions. My youngest has already submitted the UMD app - the class they are taking at the local college is listed as 4 credits so that’s what they listed. You might want to reach out to the AOs about the class in progress. My kid had DE classes last year and the in-progress class is indeed listed on the transcript.

You wouldn’t list APs as college credits, no.

This is being discussed in depth on the UMD Prospective Parent FB page

For the benefit of all the CC readers it’ll be helpful to answer the poster’s question here. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. There’s no way they would need any transcript for a class in progress, right? It’s just weird that they mention transcripts in the question where they ask about college credits in progress

When I reached out to them, they said if the class is not listed on HS transcript, it needs to be submitted by deadline as well. We are in same boat. Only dual enrollment class and is in progress. Likely transcript will simply list class, number of credits and in progress for grade.

To be safe, we requested it for all the schools. It’s $7 per transcript but better they have more documentation than be missing something that was required.

Were you able to request a transcript for an in progress class?

Another transcript/portal question. My kid sent an official transcript from the local college for DE courses on 9/30, then applied to UMD 10/5. The college transcript is still not linked in the portal. Kid sent an email to admissions and was told it’s been linked up, but the portal (3 days later) still shows the college transcript as missing. I’ll have them reach out again to admissions next week, but if you could throw some reassuring words my way or give advice on additional steps that’d help. All these details are stressful!

Yup, not an issue. I called the local community college where it’s through and they said it’s requested online through parchment for us. Very simple. Select for credit transcript request, the school you want to send to and add to cart.
Processed within a day or two. Downloaded by school following day?

I’m having same issue - transcript shows downloaded by school In parchment but doesn’t show in portal. I was going to email them tomorrow as well. But maybe ask admissions if their email assurance is sufficient if the portal doesn’t show transcript download. And then keep the email. That’s what I will do. As long as you follow their guidance, you’ll be fine.

Thank you!

Can anyone with current students share if the On campus housing and food estimate on the website of $15k is a good estimate to use for all four years? Some other schools we are considering seem to be considerably higher than the website estimates.

Hi the UMD Application Status says Incomplete for Recommendations and School Transcript even though these were part of the CommonApp. Does it takes time to get these reflected. The UMD Account got activated/created in last 24 hrs only.

I would wait a few more days. But call or email them right after to make sure they have everything. In my experience, they are very prompt in responding to questions, lot faster than some of the private universities we have corresponded with.

It took a couple days for everything to show up in my daughter’s portal. You do have to have the high school counselor send the recommendations and transcript though. It’s an extra step on top of submitting the common app. My daughter had to notify her counselor that she had applied in scoir, and then the counselor sent everything the next day. Just in case you haven’t done that…

I would say “Maybe Not”

The following link

addresses how UMD views student housing plans over all 4 years.

Many students move to off campus housing for their Junior and Senior years. My D graduated in 2018 and moved into SCC with 2 friends in her Junior year. Her rent was $900+ a month and she had to sign a 12 month lease (each girl [ayed the same $900+rent) I was required to guarantee the rent payment and each of the 3 girls had to get a renter’s insurance policy. The rent was increased the next year. I’m sure that rents have increased since 2018. Food was on their own.

Just plan ahead.
