i would like to know as well…i was told by an admissions counselor during office hours that they have a no transfer into CS policy unless there is an extraordinarily rare circumstance in play.
I am sorry someone gave you incorrect info. It is not easy to get into the CS major for students who do not start in it as freshmen, as we admitted more students directly into the major as freshmen in fall 2024, and continue to do so this year and into the future. So, we look to yield ~600 CS freshmen, whereas it was ~450 in fall 2023 and prior.
My guess is that will not be shared until after fall 2025 internal and external transfer admissions is complete, as it is ~100 internal+external transfers total per year. Spring 2025 was the first time we have had the competitive application process.
Does anyone have an idea about how hard it is to get in for econ?
Sounds good. Thank you!
Admission to UMD is major-blind. Econ is just as easy to get into as any other major, as admissions does not look at major when reviewing applicants.
super helpful. definitely got a different answer sitting with an admissions counselor on campus during office hours
Friday is less than a week away, you can do this!
It is in writing here: Limited Enrollment Program : University of Maryland
So it’s official that results will be released on Friday? Do we know what time?
My older son’s year it was around 4:45 I believe. It’s usually after the admissions office close, they hit release and run.
I’ve never really understood that (“release and run”) - I mean, why? It’s not a universal thing, but some of these schools (now three schools for DS25) are doing it, and on a Friday no less.
WRT LEP, I found this for Engineering in general:
-
Completion of MATH141 [Calculus II] with a minimum grade of C-
-
Completion of PHYS161 [General Physics: Mechanics and Particle Dynamics] with a minimum grade of C-
-
Completion of CHEM135 [General Chemistry for Engineers] with a minimum grade of C-
-
Completion of ENES100 [Introduction to Engineering Design] with a minimum grade of C-
-
The following courses are approved substitutes for CHEM135: CHEM271 or CHEM134 with a minimum grade of C‐ (Students who take CHEM134 must also have completed CHEM131 with a minimum grade of C‐).
What this looks like to me is that if someone already got a 5 on the BC Calc Exam, that would meet the math requirement to stay in the LEP?
ETA:
So that they don’t have to be flooded with calls from angry or frustrated parents asking why their child was not accepted. They will cool down over the weekend and far fewer will call on Monday.
If you wish to pursue Finance and Computer Science and get admitted to the Finance program, is it difficult to later add the Computer Science major, beyond just fulfilling the basic requirements well?
I guess I feel like that’s vanishingly unlikely unless someone had enough of an issue that yes, they’re also calling on Monday.
Yes, they only take about 100 transfers into CS a year, so if you are not admitted it’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely.
Adding majors within the same college is easy, adding a second LEP major you’d have to apply if you didn’t get in directly.
Patiently waiting for UMD, UW-Madison, and Georgia Tech this week
I’m impatiently waiting for UMD and UW-Madison this week!
This week will be a true test on how strong my heart is! lol. Oy. Can it just be Friday?
