Similar to previous years, I see a 20 point jump in test scores. Interesting thing I see compared to other publics is high avg gpa(4.45), high transfer credits(24) and some kids even have junior standing!
That’s what happens with test optional. Everyone being told to only submit if your stats are at the middle or higher. No one is submitting lower. At some point, this statistic is going to become irrelevant (if it isn’t already) when you have stats that are going to be higher than the Ivys and other T20s who are going back to test required.
Yes - our HS says dont submit score to UMD unless 1500s or better. Of course this skews the stats. I believe about half of kids submit.
My D25 submitted application on 11/1 at noon. She sent her official ACT scores in mid Oct via act.org. Her counselor and teachers submitted their reports/LORs in mid October - we received email notifications. She received an email from UMD yesterday, asking her to set up a TAP account. She did but found out on TAP portal that Application Package Status is “Incomplete”, showing her recommendations and transcripts are missing. The portal did say that “Recently submitted materials may take up to 10 business days to be listed as received in TAP”. Should we be worried? or just wait for a few days? Thanks!
It took them a full week to mark my daughter’s transcript and recommendations as received. Don’t worry!
Thank you!
D25 submitted her common app and the school submitted her supporting documents on 10/22. She set up her portal on 10/23. I called last week and they confirmed that they had received all the documents. Her portal finally updated today, 13 days later. It now shows complete. You can call to confirm that they have everything
Thank you! I’ll give them a call tomorrow
Hello - can anyone here share their kids experience with UMD’s Govt and Politics program? Specifically wondering about internship and career opportunities. Thanks!
Anyone else’s child having issues with logging into the portal. It keeps telling him that his login and password is incorrect. When he tries to reset the password, it just keeps circling back to the password reset button with no link to reset the password. He will call the admissions office tomorrow but this is now the second time this happened to him. He feels like an idiot for having to call admissions but I am assuring him that no one will hold this against him.
My son hasn’t had any issues.
Thanks. Hopefully this fix after talking to the admissions dept will stick!
Is it really going to take UMD until 2/1 to release EA decisions?
They release EA decisions on the last Friday in January (“Big Ten Day”), along with many other B1G schools.
UMD makes a lot of decisions for the EA applicants. In addition to Admission, they decide which students get admitted to Limited Enrollment Majors, which students get admitted to Special Programs (Honors College, Scholars, and others) and which students get scholarships. All that takes time, with Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks added in.
I’m a tenured faculty at one of the B1G schools and that’s not when we release.
I didn’t say all B1G schools release on the last Friday in Jan. I said “many” do (about 6-7), and that includes UMD. You can check prior year threads on this site to confirm.
All of the above is correct, other than scholarships - those come out throughout Feb and are all sent by March 1.
My oldest D. just graduated from UMD and my youngest D. is applying to UMD.
We are instate and UMD is the last school my young D. is waiting for the decision.
Good luck to all who apply to UMD.
