Dear UMD admissions who read this forum, it would mean so much to parents and students if they could get their admission decision Friday Jan 24st rather than the 31st.

In 2020, decisions were released on January 31st, a Friday.

But they also go out the Friday after the weekend when the TerpBus goes out (which happened today), so who knows?

Do they roll them out ALL at once or in waves? I just saw they posted EA decisions BY Feb. 1. When Penn State said BY Dec. 24, it was in waves. Does anyone know from past experience? Thx

They generally come out all at once, but there are always a few that get delayed for some reason

It is pretty much all at once. I believe Penn State does rolling admissions. That said - there was a post today of the Terp bus visiting an admitted student, BUT, she might be a student athlete. Usually decisions go out the last Friday of the month, which is usually also the fourth Friday of the monthā¦ so we can hope a slim chance of getting a notification this coming Friday since the bus is going around! Who knows!

I am going to take a guess that decisions will be out this coming week. The past couple years, the Terp bus has hit the road on the weekend prior to decisions being released. They are probably a little early this weekend due to the incoming weather. I canāt imagine they are telling these handful of students they are admitted and making everyone else wait two weeks!

Nope! See my other post - looking back at the the UMD Insta account - the bus has gone out the weekend prior to decision release. So hopefully this is a good sign.

Does UMD typically post the notification date in advance? Or do we all just keep guessing until that day?
No, they are released without any advance notice.

Not necessarily. They always notify three students in advance, on the TerpBus. I believe they pick B/K recipients, but not sure.

On the resident life portal, it says that housing will be open on 1/24 at 6 pm for new students. Hereās to next Friday- I hope!

Iām sorry if this has been answered - I feel like in following a couple of different schools so I lose trackā¦ Is there any housing advantage at UMD to paying the housing deposit immediately? Or does it not matter?

Yes, as far as I recall (older kid attends) better options will be available the sooner you pay the deposit (you get to select, for example, if you want to pay a little more for a room with AC).
From the housing site:
Complete your Agreement by May 1 to be guaranteed residence hall housing. Assignments are based on your Housing Agreement submission date and space availability. You may submit the Housing Agreement before accepting admission to the University.

Please note your Directory ID and password become active approximately 24 hours after your electronic admission notice is delivered. You will need this to access the housing application site.

does anyone have experience with applying for computer science since they revamped and made it a separate consideration? wondering how they handle EA insofar as deferrals, admit to general admissions vs comp sciā¦the new world of their compsci dept stressing my kid a bit
