University of Maryland (UMD) Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

In the past, students did not have the option of requesting a specific dorm.

The first line of the Housing site states " All new first-year students, including students participating in Living-Learning Programs, must complete a 2025-2026 Residence Hall Housing and Dining Agreement by May 1, 2025, to be eligible to live on campus.

This is a key point. Each LLP has a specific associated Dorm for housing the students admitted to that LLP. For example. students admitted to the ACES program within the Honors College are required to live in the Prince Frederick Dorm for their first 2 years.

Still, it is probably better to submit the housing form sooner rather than latter.

Admissions at UMD have a sequence.

Students are first evaluated for admission to UMD without regard to any Major they requested.

If they are admitted to UMD, and selected a Limited Enrollment Program as their desired major (such as CS) their application is evaluated by the CS Department for admission. The answer is either yes or no.

If they are admitted, their decision will have the advising College listed at the bottom of the decision letter, otherwise it will list ā€œLetters and Sciencesā€

Along with the major.

thanks…super helpful.

Also just for the record, checking the status 30 times today did not result in a decision to my dismay.

What is the point of opening housing portal for new students even before EA results come out? Am I missing anything?

I think some are thinking/hoping that this housing portal information implies an earlier results date.

I posted the housing portal comment above but have since heard from people who work at UMD (not admissions though) that decisions will most likely be released 1/31. I guess we will find out soon.

What is the Terp bus?

This bus that visits 3 students and informs them of their admission (and scholarship). In past years, EA admission decisions have been announced on the Friday following this bus tour.

Did Maryland announce the decision in previous years? Or the students just received email notifications unexpectedly to check their portal?

I believe students receive an email shortly before the decisions are live in the portal. They’ll also announce across multiple social media platforms. It’s definitely going to be either this upcoming Friday or the Friday after.

@STEMX, I realize you won’t be able to comment on the date, but perhaps you can confirm the announcement process? Thanks in advance

That’s helpful. So they do announce the decision before sending out notification emails.

Sorry, I don’t recall the sequence - I’m hopeful UMD Admissions will answer here.

For my son the decision was there before he got the email in 2021. They announce it on social media as well pretty close to when decisions are released

What I have observed over many years, is that when people expect the EA decisions to be released (such as this Friday), they open their portal and keep refreshing it hoping to see the decision. They are not really checking their email, since the email will just say - ā€œgo to the portal to see your decisionā€

Maybe the emails come out first, but people are not focused on that.

If you guys had to guess… 24th or 31st?

A response from a representative of UMD seemed to indicate it would be next week, despite the housing contracts and the Terp bus.
