University of Massachusetts Amherst Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

My son is in-state, and he got $2000. Cannot be compared to OOS applications, which seem to have merit awards 12k-18k.

My student was pleasantly surprised to be waitlisted. We were expecting a flat-out rejection. My student was offered the usual waitlist selections, Fall semester with Career Launch in MA or Fall semester with Global Launch in Dublin. Does anyone have experience/knowledge of the social acclimation to Amherst with coming in January rather than August?

…I don’t but I visit UMass often because my daughter goes there and I’ve been in higher ed my whole life. That campus is so diverse and approachable. As they say, join clubs, etc. and he will find his people. The first semester my daughter grouped with people from our town, we’re in state. Her friends are now people she met with in class and that match her study and “party” habits. She really came into her own and found people that match her pre-med goals, etc. while she is also with people from other majors she met in electives and through other people. It’s so easy to make friends if you put yourself out there and stay reasonably flexible.

….also, my second was waitlisted as well. Disappointed he chose Fall only…I should have encouraged him to do spring. Many transfer because they were accepted to other schools like BU, etc. and need to do their first year elsewhere…some transfer for spring for other reasons, as you know. The school is about 20k so there are always people coming and going.
