University of Miami Class of 2023

Per UM Website:

Early Decision I applicants will be notified in late December.
Early Action applicants will be notified in late January-early February.
Early Decision II applicants will be notified in mid-late February.
Regular Decision applicants will be notified in early April.

Why go EDII, since an immediate response will not be provided, when EDII responses are after EA responses. I would think, but I am no oracle, U Miami will do like Tulane: whoever gets deferred after EA will have the opportunity to press the EDII button and commit.

Too many EA apps to wade through…looking to distribute them?

I think the days of student shopping schools and waiting for the best offer are over. To get yields up, school are now telling students put up or shut up. If you want to shop and test the waters, go elsewhere.

In my opinion, not that it counts for anything:

ED requires a contract and, if accepted, immediate withdrawal of all other applications with relatively immediate remittance of deposit.

But for EA to make sense, what it should require is a decision without contract, however, an expedited deadline to commit, i.e.: (1) You’ve been accepted; (2) you have to accept and remit deposit on or before _______; (3) should you fail to accept remit deposit as required, status will be automatically changed to rejection (or withdrawal of application).

Using EA in the manner described provides for the middle ground and puts the student on a short leash and allows the university to move to the next phase of RD applicants.

@kitty72 Daughter accepted last year EA in late Jan. Son applied this year and still waiting.

Hey, Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

C’mon late January

Is anyone else’s portal not working?

@rafagirl2001 We were able to log in.

Can someone chance me?
I applied EA I’m a female from New Jersey and I applied as a Biology Major

My UW GPA is 3.894 and my WGPA is a 4.4455
I’m in the top 5% of my class and I believe I’m about 8 out of around 200 (they won’t tell me my exact rank though).

By the end of my senior year I will have taken 11 AP classes: Environmental Science, World History, Microeconomics, English Language, Physics 1, Chemistry, Biology, Physics 2, Statistics, Calculus BC, and English Literature

Besides that I’ve only taken honors classes. I also took an online Art Appreciation course over the summer so I would have room in my schedule to take Italian and French and still complete my art requirement.

The activities I listed included:
A member of Girl Scouts for 13 years and I completed both my Silver Award and my Gold Award during high school.

Vice President of National Honor Society and helped to create the new tutoring program at my school and have so far completed about 25 hours of community service through NHS.

President of the Italian Club where I coordinated meetings; planned cultural field trips. Helped plan Italian Honor Society induction ceremony (also a member of the Italian HS). I also was awarded the highest Italian grade for all of Italian 3 Honors during my junior year.

Varsity Gymnastics grades 10-12 and won the best teammate award in my junior year.

Key Club 9-12 grade; awarded general membership (9th grade), the diamond award (10th grade) and the silver award (11th grade). I have completed over 200 hours of community service.

Heroes and Cool Kids 10-12; Nominated by teachers based on academics, extracurriculars, character; mentor K-8 children to promote good life choices and dedication to education.

Competitive Dance 9-10 for about 8 hours per week. Was named one of three National finalists in Groove Dance Competition’s National Cover Model Competition.

French Club 9-12; Attend meetings; fundraise, organize cultural field trips; assist with French Honor Society ceremony (also a member of French Honor Society). Was also awarded the highest grade in French 1 and 2 Honors during grades 10 and 11.

Received my Congressional Bronze Medal Award (grade 12) (began working on it in grade 11) ; fulfilled personal goals in the areas of development, exploration, community service and physical fitness over twelve months.

You did not include SAT/ACT scores, but I’d say that you have great grades and a very rigorous course load, so you are a strong candidate. Best of luck!

My SAT is 1340 and my ACT is a 28

@gold523 WOW! Great resume, and scores aren’t too shabby either! Best of luck!

@gold523 your SAT score is just inside the mid-range and your ACT is below it, but all else is good, as I said above. I hope you get good news in January.

Son just received an email to check his message portal. He applied EA, but is in the running for a premier scholarship. He has to submit an additional essay by January 4. This is unexpected for him since he didn’t expect to hear anything about scholarships before hearing about acceptance

@leonmomma what are your son’s stats?

Awesome @leonmomma we are just hoping to get in! Glad to hear someone with great news!

Congratulations @leonmomma!

Hopefully your S has an essay he can use or modify to work with the prompt. Otherwise he’ll have a busy 4 days.

Good luck!

?Happy New Year
