University of Miami Class of 2023

33 act 3.6 uw gpa

@lesimpson4 called and they said the same thing to me. my scores are basically the same as yours also

idk what to do now

Do you guys think there is still a chance to receive financial aid to those who are not offered aid yet?

I will say this as far as the green dots go. I don’t know anyone who had the green dot/circle that was outright admitted. They were either rejected or waitlisted. Every single one that I know that’s been the case. ONe friend’s kid was mistakenly classified as EA, had the green circle, was told they were deferred to RD. When the parent emailed to say the kid was never EA their app was updated and the green circle disappeared. She was admitted RD (Frost) with a big scholarship. My other friend who I was certain her kid would be admitted, green circle, no admission.

For the other EA deferred kids that had the green circle on here and were admitted, I think the circle went away as the decisions were updated. I feel 100% confident in this theory and hope it helps people next year with the angst of waiting for a decision.

lol nice try my friend was deferred ed2 and always had 2 green dots, never disappeared and was accepted friday

@SpartanDrew That is not true. 2 of my daughters friends were just admitted Friday and they both had 2 GREEN DOTS. I had them show me their canelink page. I saw them!!! They were originally deferred.

My son was offered Spring 2020 admission. Meteorology Major. 4.91 WGPA, 1370 SAT. Deferment til spring excludes him from merit scholarship candidacy, also no guarantee housing available with other freshmen, and no guarantee will grad on time. Am desperately trying to see the silver lining in this offer. Anyone have a positive experience or know of someone with a positive experience with this later admission offer?. Seems like one would forever be behind the eight ball (socially, academically, housing wise
???)

did the green dots disappear the day of admission??? Also I think it’s different for deferred EA versus RD. I haven’t ever seen the 2 green dots. Where was the second green dot? That’s a new one on me

nope they were there, even still there for him (I just made him check) he was ed2 deferred, not ea. There is no way to know with the green dots, UM would never make it this easy to know your decision before you got it

@lesimpson4 i dont think our portals have changed since our original decision in january i think the green dots are just left from that because i had them a couple months ago too

@SpartanDrew The green dots never disappeared, they are still there now even after receiving acceptance on Friday.

@kimven I think no matter where he goes, he will be fine socially! Especially if he partakes in school activities, such as fraternities and clubs. Greek life is a huge deal at UM, so he would likely want to join one eventually anyway.

Additionally, I had a close friend who was admitted for the spring semester at Middlebury in VT. He ended up getting an outstanding internship in the fall to later put on his resumes. He was able to gain that experience without it disrupting study time. So if your son does decide to wait till spring, he could still spend his time gaining experiences, such as internships, that he would otherwise be too busy for during the school year.

As far as academics, people graduate late all the time depending on their major/if they’re double majoring, etc. It also seems like a lot of people were deferred to the Spring, so he definitely wouldn’t be alone.

Current UM student chiming in on this discussion because I remember how reliant I was on this forum. I know PLENTY of spring admits that get housed in mahoney pearson when they arrived spring semester. Some even moved right into the freshman dorms if space was available. After their spring semester they will feel as if they have been here for the full year. Totally think UM is the right choice for anybody, no matter when they are admitted.

Daughter accepted after being deferred and offered 20K a year merit. Crazy ride

@SpartanDrew Just curious - your friend’s D with the big scholarship at Frost, what instrument/major?

@youremybluesky Congratulations to your daughter! When was she notified?

@KimVen My daughter was accepted for Spring also after being deferred EA. We’re pretty bummed out. So many questions. I know she can take classes locally, but not sure how to even about that. Do we let them know she’s only there for the fall? Did you ask someone about housing?

It’s looking like the only space available is for spring admits. I am guessing any students still deferred will be denied or offered spring admittance.

i havent gotten a decision yet but my 2 green dot box disappeared from my portal what does it mean
