Is the financial aid amount per year or over the course of all four years

Question for those deferred: DId you apply for FA?
For those accepted are you full pay?

Son accepted to CS with 20k President’s scholarship. OOS, NMSF, 3.8 unweighted, 1490 SAT. Are there any other accepted OOS students who expect to become NMF here? I’ve tried to find current info on receiving the Benacquisto scholarship as an OOS student, but couldn’t find anything on Miami’s website. I emailed fin aid about it a few months ago, but didn’t receive a response.

Accepted (34 SS & 4.31 W/3.95 UW)
Nursing
Toured 3 times (family lives down the street)
GA Resident
$20k a year

Found it to be quite low. Tulane gave $30k a year plus Honors. Waiting for DHS.

Otherwise going to Ga Tech or Florida International (Pre-Med) due to $$.

I received the email in December regarding to the Premier Scholarships but today only received the presidential. Would it be wise to email admissions and ask to reconsider? Is that a thing people do?

@financekid123 No you should not ask them to reconsider, all scholarships are final and I don’t think they change their mind on things.

@kforty2 Yes – for NMSF OOS and wondering about Benacquisto and whether it would stack. Would it? I guess we can ask them but that would mean a really, really great option!!

Son accepted with 23k President’s in Business/Entrepreneurship. OOS, NMSF, 3.85 uw, 1560 SAT, 35 ACT.

@kforty2 - we are hopeful for NMF, too. I think that the schools that don’t really need to attract NMFs for their school stats don’t really talk much about the Benacquisto. Since it is a state-funded thing, they don’t really have much involvement other than accepting the money. My understanding is that the state will pay the amount of the in-state COA from the highest cost state school (which I think is around $22k), and then whatever scholarships UM offers should stack on top of that. It sounds like you’d be similar to us: most tuition covered with the President’s + Benacquisto. It should leave mostly room/board/fees plus a little more, if my calculations are right. I’m not sure if they add their own NMF contribution or not to be stacked. This is just my understanding from all the Benacquisto info I can find. NMF should be out next week, so maybe you can call someone in FA once you know for sure. Good luck!

Decisions letters are in portals for EA

My D was accepted with $20K Presidential Scholarship. 4.2/3.9 GPA, 33 ACT, 12 APs (AP scholar), all state tennis, 600+ volunteer hours, lots of honors ECs, her brother is a UM sophomore. She was deferred from Tulane and UVA (her first choice) and has substantial scholarships to UArk (honors college), Ole Miss (honors college), UGA and AZ State (Barrett honors).

@minniemouse143 Which premier did you get? I’ve only heard about a few singers…wondering if my son is completely out of the running…he submitted an essay in December.

@noah2425 you just never know what the Admissions Officer is looking for at a given time. Son accepted to UMich but not Miami…go figure. Looks like he’ll be a Wolverine!

If you haven’t received merit by now does that mean no go on merit? thanks

Hey everyone! I got deferred, but congrats to everyone who made it in! Does anyone know the chances of making it in RD even after being deferred??

@ufalumn1997 Yes, it was the Singer Scholarship.

@tmeg01 I see UGA on your daughter’s list. How would you compare UGA and UM?

@citymama9 We are full pay and D was deferred. TBH, being full pay has not made a noticeable difference in her results, especially at the private schools. She has above average stats, but not tippy top. Been accepted to 2 schools, deferred from 3, denied at 1.

@kaibab3 & @gamom2023. A parent whose student considered Miami as a NMF last year said that they will indeed stack scholarships. There seems to be some confusion over whether or not Benacquisto covers just the in state cost of attendance for an OOS student or if it also wipes out the additional OOS tuition/fees as well (up to the cost of the most expensive Florida public, which Miami would be more expensive than).
