My DS was accepted to LSA Honors today. Excited to learn more about the benefits of this program.
Daughter got accepted into LSA honors yesterday. Would love to hear from others who have some experience of the program and whether they liked it, how much extra work it entailed etc.
Anyone know if they send an honors ‘rejection’ email or anything?
Yes, they did. I was also accepted to Honors and saw people get rejected and deferred. All emails were sent around ~4:30PM EST
Thanks. Weirdly my LSA droid doesn’t have an email either way, nor anything in the portal. I guess we’ll send an email inquiry.
ETA: apparently they have an email saying they’ll hear by 11pm EST 4/4; I guess maybe they submitted into a different batch?
Check spam folder?
lol thanks, not that tech illiterate
Turns out there was an email outlining e.g. if you submitted your application by X you’ll get a decision by Y, and so on. They’re in the next batch, due by 11pm 4/4.
Nice, we are also from CA (Bay Area). DS is super excited about UMich - he will be doing Biomedical Engg. The students were raving about Frita Batidos - we didn’t have as much time when we visited in February. The food in the Pierpont Commons in North Campus was pretty decent.
On North there are tons of great restaurants for students in a few outdoor malls within walking distance. Decent student friendly pricing and good food FYI. Just look up restaurants by North Campus. Plus the Kroger is close and the bus goes there
Mine did honors and was very happy with the experience. The only difference we saw in course work was positive - some smaller class size options, and that your first year writing requirement (fywr) had to be one that is offered through honors, but it was no more challenging than any of the regular LSA classes offered for that requirement. They also offer an honors counseling department and had some fun welcome week activities specific to the program to help meet others and explore the campus. After the first year there is no requirement to stay in honors and do a senior thesis, but you can work toward that, as well. I would say the one major benefit is guaranteed dorm placement in South Quad (although, it should also be noted you aren’t required to live there if you accept the honors placement). The dorm location alone would be the #1 reason to accept an honors offer. Congrats to your daughter!
I was accepted into Umich EA LSA with preffered admission to ross, did not hear anything in 1st ross wave. I know that the second ross wave is 3/15. If I don’t get in, is it still possible/common for students who get in EA to be accepted in the third ross wave, or is the third wave reserved for students who get admitted RD.
How do you have this info? How about taubman? or is it just ross?
Yes and yes. According to Ross your chances of getting in either wave is the same. Many on here don’t think so since on the second and final waves you will see lots of denials also. This is just the natural process. Many get accepted in April. Hold on. Almost there.
Good luck.
Ross publishes their decision dates. Taubman does not.
Anon4school thanks for such a detailed response!
Has anyone received a merit award from LSA this year yet? We know merit is very limited at Michigan, but they did say there are some available from LSA…
Ross 5pm est today? So nervous!
Sending you good wishes!
We got a very small merit award from LSA with the acceptance letter (EA)
In the portal or email? So results for today are already out then?
Congrats!!
