In-state
My son (in-state) received his last week. We just attended a campus day and they said they are using the CSS for estimates until FAFSA data arrives in March. Once FAFSA is in, they can confirm if the estimate is accurate or if you’ll receive more in federal aid.
How was it?
My daughter received the email encouraging her to apply for the Lead Scholars program from the Alumni Association (which she is definitely going to do). I read where the minimum award is $5K per year. Does anybody have any insights as to what the average award is? The answer has no bearing on whether or not she applies as she would be very appreciative if chosen…just curious
I can’t find that exact info anywhere. I do recall that they specify it as a range of $5k - $20k/year, if awarded.
I do see on the website that “Since its founding, there have been 758 LEAD Scholars” which looks to be about 17 years. That’s about 45/year but it seems clear that it’s ramped up over time, and is now larger than that.
This report from 2022/23 has lots of good info if by now ever so slightly dated. At the time there were 259 LEAD scholars. So call it 65 per year. Not a lot, especially at a school the size of UMich!
Thanks!
It was a nice program! We are in-state and have been on campus many times, but it was great to see north campus (son is engineering) and meet with some professors and current students.
For those who applied for first-round consideration, scholarship offers will be emailed in late March. For those who applied for second-round consideration, scholarship offers will be made on a rolling basis throughout the month of April. Scholarship offers will conclude by late April.
If you applied for the first round and did not receive an offer, you will continue to be considered throughout the process. No need to reapply.
For those that doubt Ann Arbor for your kids comes this…
I am taking my CA kid for a weekend to check out the school. She is a huge nature freak (bio major), loves boba tea and international foods. Any suggestions for hiking/restaurants from those of you familiar with the area?
I don’t remember the name, but this ramen place near main part of campus was pretty good for the boba.
Just do a search. Every type of food is on campus.
This isn’t for major hiking but a great place to chill right on campus and one of my favorite places on campus.
does anyone know if LEAD scholar decisions are rolling?
I don’t see anything either way. Maybe someone from a prior year can chime in.
ETA: from last year’s thread
Applicants who apply by 2/20 for first round consideration will hear back regarding their status late March. Students who were not offered a first round scholarship will continue to be considered for second round scholarships and will not need to reapply. All students will receive final scholarship status notification via email by May 12.
Sincerely,

Looks like a lot of emails past couple of days, one on friday and two today. We applied to taubman tho. When do rolling decisions start? Another week to go I guess… this wait is killing.
For food: Miss Kim’s (Korean). Located in the Kerrytown neighborhood just northwest of campus. And Frita Batido’s (Cuban), located downtown. Both excellent, both casual - order in-line, get a number, sit. For boba: Ann Arbor has many of the national boba chains. Some of the better ones are not right on campus though, so she should just do a google search to see what she might like best of the many options. For hiking, I agree on the Arb. You can map to park near the MoJo or Stockwell (dorms) and then “hike” (walk) down to the river and back. It’s very pretty. There are also trails on the other side of the river, one option is to go to Argo Park and walk along the river one direction or the cascades the other.
Where did you view this? In portal? Where? Thx!
Anyone else going to accepted student’s day this weekend?
Here now for accepted students tmw.
