University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2024

How did they know who else was in the MLC prior to move-in?

Regarding the “I’ve moved in now what” I did find with D22 (different school) that I thought the kids would have doors open and start introducing themselves to the people that already moved in as we did back in the dark ages of college. It ended up being that many of the kids sort of stuck with their family until closer to when the official orientation activities started in the evening. At that point it was “parents who?”

We are doing x+1 as mom and dad will need some strong cocktails.

Depends on the kid, but I’d do X+1 just in case the next day any miscellaneous items are needed. We had breakfast the next day with our kid. And then left.

If your kid has to take a placement test for a foreign language, the departments already list the date and time of the August test. My kid has to be there August 21st for Arabic! You may want to look up your own placement test date and time.

We drove up. Dropped off stuff to dorm. Cleared out everything in the Ann Arbor Target, had including a futon on sale (in West dorm it was a corner unit for 3 kids but only 2 in it. They had extra room). Then we left. Same for daughter. Dropped off and got some stuff then left. They both immediately had activities to go to anyway. They want the kids getting to know their dorm mates like right away. Some kids lag behind. It’s an adjustment period for many a kid. But they get there.

PSA not all language tests are in-person. Romance languages for example are online and so are not dependent upon particular dates.

We will definitely be having cocktails. In fact if you want to connect DM me and we can all go to the speakeasy we went to on our last visit.

The MLC contacted members over the summer and did some getting to know you stuff online.

Whoa. Late-breaking, very surprising, totally welcomed news: My CoE/CS droid received a LEAD scholarship! Email arrived today, well after the date that they’d said would likely be final.

Haven’t asked LSA Honors droid yet…but they’re better about checking email so if similarly awarded we should know soon.

Fantastic!! Good thing you committed…

The funny thing is the copy from the email was clearly written prior to 5/1.

Hi, know this is months later but I am currently trying to find an answer to this since I’m in the same situation, as my HS doesn’t count dual enrollment classes towards GPA. Was wondering if you had the answer by now? BTW I’m an incoming senior and will apply in a few months. Thanks

I would not stress on this AT ALL

Schools have seen all these situations. They know exactly how they handle them.

You will not be penalized.

Just call Michigan and ask. Pretty simple. But they would rather you have regular school classes and your schools AP classes over Dual classes. Depending on your schools situation the dual might not be evaluated. So call admissions. They are very nice. You don’t even need to state your name and you will have the answer. Some schools don’t offer Aps so duals will be looked at. If your school has Aps then duals are less important.

You said earlier that you go to high school, or at least took the DE classes, in AA. Have you asked your high school counselor? I agree with calling admissions, but a high school counselor in AA should also be able to provide guidance on how Michigan will treat the transcript.

I get that it may not be a huge impact but since I know they only use an unweighted gpa, mine would theoretically go from 3.98 to 3.94. However I also heard somewhere that they only evaluate GPA rounded to one decimal, so would I just be a 3.9 applicant either way?

If it clarifies anything: a better way to state this question is saying that my HS does list an unweighted GPA out of 4.0 on the transcript, using the same scale as Mich, and mine would show a 3.98 since that DE is not part of it. I’m just asking if Mich would go off of that unweighted GPA that’s already on my transcript.

We have many AP’s, I will have taken 13 total after senior year.

They will review your transcript in totality.

You don’t have a situation that the school is unequipped to handle.

They (and most/all schools) have seen your situation many, many times.

You are not unique.

What does that mean in the context of the original question?
