Ok, I appreciate it but that change would bring my unweighted down significantly so I still would like to know if anyone has the answer to that.
If people wouldn’t worry about things they can’t change, then let’s be honest there would be little use of websites like CC, since there are so many posts asking for chances to get into a university. It might not be rational to worry but it’s still a valid question.
My daughter got in EA, OOS. She had a 3.97 unweighted. She took about the same amount of AP classes that you have and she had DE. Michigan will look at your rigor, your gpa and how you challenged yourself academically. If you have the opportunity to go on a scheduled tour I would recommend it. Admissions does a presentation before the tour on what they are looking for in your application and it is very informative. And if you are applying EA, get your app in as early as you can. Your why Michigan essay is very important. There is a great interview on YouTube with a former Michigan admissions officer and it is very helpful. Your GPA is good. Your rigor is good. Good luck to you, you’ll end up somewhere awesome.
No they don’t go off of the gpa your school gives them. They get the grades from your transcript, including dual enrollment and create a gpa using their own calculations . Btw they consider A- =A. But yea don’t worry bout it.
Ok, thanks. Do you by chance know if the whole “rounding to one decimal for GPA” thing is true. If they used that then it wouldn’t matter if I had a 3.94 or 3.98
I would humbly submit that it’s a distinction without a difference. If you do or do not get in, it almost certainly will not be about that. I’d continue to lean in, go deeper into the stuff you do and love, maybe explore something new as well if you have the time and inclination.
Writing a great, meaningful essay will mean more than the difference of these two grades. Your acceptance or denial won’t be because of this. Worry about things you can control.
My son was wait listed on a few classes and they told him just to show up since in the first few weeks many drop said classes. Knowing that number on the wait list is helpful. My son was like #1 on both…
I was going to leave a little note here for future UMich attendees. Even though we were told that seats would be available, even for students taking a later online orientation date, that was certainly not the case this year. My kid waited for the AP scores to arrive then had online orientation. Almost nothing was left, there’s not even a waitlist. The online info was that spots would be available, but it’s really not the case at all.
So in future years definitely take the earliest orientation date you can get that unlocks class registration! Do not make our mistake!
What major? This is really odd since they hold class amounts especially even for foreign students that can’t come that early. My son had one of the latest orientations and got all his classes even with 2 being wait listed. This was a few years back though. The advisor couldn’t help or emailing the professors? They are usually all really helpful.
He was looking at the STEM classes. All data Science, all Stats, all Econ 101, all honors math, all freshman writing there’s not even a waitlist. He’s transferring in math through linear algebra so doesn’t need the standard math sequence.
EECS 183 (intro to programming) has seats available.
Anyhow definitely do online orientation earlier so you’re not struggling to find classes in your major.
He should continue to check for additional sections or slots opening up. My son worked on his schedule up until classes started last fall and was able to get everything he needed.
Just adding to this emailing the professors can be helpful also. I just never heard of any student having this much trouble in July. Something isn’t right.
The class sections just aren’t there. He’s running the available class listing every day so he sees new classes or sections popping up. He’s not even on a waitlist for intro classes, it’s that full.
And I’ll give credit to EECS that has lots of openings for students at intro level.
And he is writing to departments trying for overrides.
