University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2024

Yes, an applicant can ultimately be admitted to their home school, but rejected to Ross. However, I’d personally want to make that clear in any follow-up correspondence (e.g., LOCI) with the University.

That WI data is old - fall 2022 entry and the class was so oversubscribed they turned lounges into 6 person dorm rooms

Last yr - lots of WL > acceptance movement

I noted it was old when posted. All CDS are old.

The bigger point to Op Is that WL is a rejection with school hedge and deferral is not.

They were deferred hence not rejected.

That was the main message. I used WL to show how it’s different.

WL change at most schools year to year but not really the point of the message.

The point is - it’s premature for OP to write off either school.

Does anyone have more insight for the school of nursing, average profile for admitted students? i am seeing a lot of 4.0uw acceptances. Does anyone know how many total are offered seats for nursing at Mich?
OOS, deferred
3.8 uw/ 4.4 w
test optional
Daughter is below 50th percentile in CDS, which doesn’t break down by major/college. Can one switch from test optional to apply with test scores after a deferral? Has a 30 superscored ACT

See last bullet:

  • Students who do not wish to have SAT or ACT scores considered as part of their application review can still submit other optional forms of testing (such as AP exam scores or IB exam scores), and these scores may be self-reported.
  • Students who initially did not submit test scores may self-report or submit official scores prior to the Feb. 1 Regular Decision deadline.
  • Students who initially submit test scores can redact scores once they are submitted.

thanks for that!

it’s the number three action item listed in the portal for all postponed students

If an applicant was postponed from EA are they automatically ineligible for the LSA Honors program? Since the final due date for the Honors application is March 9th but postponed students won’t hear back until “early April” it seems that way to me but I wanted to check if anyone had insight. (as well as the logical thought that if one wasn’t accepted outright in EA, one wouldn’t be ‘Honors Program’ material, but I wasn’t sure if RD applicants were considered as well)

The answer is here…

My son graduated with honors from engineering and was never in the honors college. Make sure your child wants what they provide. For my son he didn’t want the additional work etc. He already had senior thesis /project. Many don’t know you can graduate with honors on your diploma without it.

Oops - I wrote March 9th earlier. It’s April 9th. But still, that would presumably leave little time between the time when EA-postponed and RD applicants hear yes or no and when the Honors application is due, assuming it leaves any time at all.

Good to know!

I agree with @Knowsstuff. My student is a Michigan senior and didn’t want to go into college with added pressure. She was coming from a small/rural OOS high school and I think was worried about keeping up. She has near-perfect grades and has taken advantage of many academic opportunities that create a unique narrative for her (two major research projects, senior capstone project, honors designations, etc.) without honors. She also applied and was accepted to two majors that require an application (one accepted 25% of applicants and one accepted 40%). One of her friends in honors was accepted to neither.

This isn’t intended as honors bashing at all, only reassurance that if your student doesn’t start in honors for one reason or another (his decision or a matter of timing), there will be plenty of amazing academic opportunities anyway.

(I just wanted to add that there are benefits to honors, including an immediate sense of community, so I am truly not trying to dissuade anyone from applying. But if it doesn’t work out for whatever reason, your student won’t lack opportunities or challenges…or other kinds of honors designations.)

We LOVED The Graduate! You can literally walk everywhere. We took an Uber from the airport and the Michigan Flyer (so easy!) back for our flight home. Didn’t need a car at all!

I concur… Lol. My son had his major and two minors. I won’t go into all his opportunities but at Michigan if you want it then just go get it. I promise the poster. Their kid won’t be bored or have nothing to do… Lol. Many, many ways to challenge yourself.

The Graduate and the Bell Tower Hotel are probably in the best locations relative to Central Campus academic buildings. I have stayed at The Graduate, and it is convenient, but it is part of a contrived charm chain of hotels. I am not above contrived charm and like the hotel, but the rooms are pretty small. I prefer staying at the Residence Inn Ann Arbor Downtown. It is still close enough that you won’t need a car, and there are downtown restaurants and shops that you wouldn’t otherwise see on the scheduled tour.

You can email ecredentials@umich.edu and let them know you would like to change your test status. Include document, Name, birthdate, and UMich ID and then also upload scores.
