University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2024

I think they can give an estimate prior to FAFSA because they were a css profile school. Our other css profile school gave us financial info in December.

It was posted elsewhere that Oregon State U announced they are delaying the commitment date to June 1 bc of the FAFSA delay. Not sure if they are a CSS school. But I would think other schools will do the same.

EDIT: OSU is not a CSS school I just checked, sorry

Chess is awesome. My son went to Northside college prep. He was on the Chess team.

Congrats! is your daughter considering RC? my twins got in RC too, and they found out how artsy the community is, and are thinking about declining it. They want an interdisciplinary environment, but RC seems to be heavily leaning toward arts/creative types. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9hCnWC4G1g

So Rick Clark is the master for college admissions and even though he is from GT his advice works for all colleges. There are many years worth of the “why” this kid and not my kid. They are good reads.

I understand what you mean and apologize if I came off as crass. I was overreacting to a litany of posts on CC (not just for UMich) conjecturing yield protection based only on stats. I still stand by my opinion that these claims are largely baseless – however, if one makes peace with the idea that at this tier of schools there is almost no consistent rhyme or reason regarding who gets in and who doesn’t, rejections and deferrals can be taken a lot easier, as they don’t say much, if anything, about the quality of the applicant. I wish everyone the best of luck for their future decisions.

I talked to my college advisor at school and that’s what she’s thinking too!! But she says nothing is determined yet so sadly we’re just in a waiting game. She says perhaps if the bigger schools were to delay their commitment date then other schools will follow. Luckily UMICH is a CSS profile and FAFSA school though! So maybe we will be fortunate to get the aid letters earlier. For UMIAMI who take both CSS and FAFSA, they gave me my financial aid reward letter already along with my decision because their CSS profile due date was extremely early. As of right now we’re all just waiting :weary:

Really good analogy in college decision (defer, deny) - " If your scores and grades are above their profile and they defer you, they only proved what they said in their publications and presentations—admission is about more than numbers. At Georgia Tech we are knee-deep in application review. We have not released decisions, but day in and day out we are slating students for defer who have ACT scores of 35 or 36 and great grades. Is that “shocking?” It shouldn’t be. Institutional priorities, shaping a class, and supply and demand drive admission decisions. Similarly, if your scores are in the middle or below their profile, a defer also proves decisions are made using more than just numbers."
