Savas is great. One more iconic one and it’s good.

Did anyone else get an email about submitting fafsa and CSS? I submitted CSS back in October and Fafsa has been a mess. Wondering if I need to do anything.

“ We encourage you to explore all of the available aid options at U-M. The actual cost of attendance may be less than you expect after you factor in funding awarded through grants, scholarships, loans, and Work-Study programs.”

My daughter also received the same email and her CSS was submitted in October and FAFSA completed in early January.

My kids love Frita Batidos. It is their favorite burger in AA by far. I was there on Saturday night, and it was very good. It is extremely informal. You order at a counter. You then sit down at large picnic tables shared with others, and they deliver your food. If you are looking for a real feel for UMich, this is a good place to go. If you are looking for a more refined dining experience, Frita’s is not the right place. Blue Tractor is decent if you are in the mood for barbecue.

Just one meal… that’s a tough one! My husband and I both went to grad school at Michigan and lived there for most of the 90s, so we have a lot of favorites.

We visited Ann Arbor from the Philly area this summer for a campus tour with our daughter. We chose Grizzly Peak Brewing, Red Hawk, and Ashley’s (our nostalgic favorite) for our casual meals. For a fancier meal, we tried to go to the Palio to dine on the roof with old friends, but it was full so we all sat outside next door at Real Seafood Co. and listened to a band play in the street until just after sunset. We have eaten at all of these places many times and enjoy them all.

Back in the day, we also liked the Earle (underground dining), the Chop House/La Dolce Vita, and the Gandy Dancer for more upscale meals.

WOW thanks so much for all the dinner recs! We’ll actually be there two nights I now realize, the night before the Campus Day and the night of.

I didn’t attend UMich and I’ve never been to Ann Arbor. I did attend another school known for incredible spirit and fun, but much much smaller. I have a cousin who is now a tenured prof in NYC. She’s studied/taught/lived at UMich, Franklin & Marshall, Middlebury, and three difference NYC colleges among others. She maintains Ann Arbor is her favorite place ever. Cannot wait!

If you are looking for a good brunch type of spot, Jefferson Market is good.

Michigan/Ann Arbor is the quintessential college experience for a lot of people. My senior loves it there and we enjoy each visit and can totally see why.

I understand the big school, rah-rah vibe isn’t for everyone, but it’s hard to beat Michigan, if that what your kids want. Even the weather is unifying!

I cannot wait to get a glimpse, and also to see what the droids think of it!

Whenever we visit a school, we choose a restaurant that is close enough and affordable enough that my child might actually eat there on a regular basis to get a sense of what a real meal
Might be like.

Are the droids a group ticket - or they can be split apart in final decision?

Accepted LSA 4.0 uw, 8 AP in state

Does UM send any fun swag? Has anyone received hard copy letters in mail yet?

Neither droid has received a hard copy by post, nor other swag. I note that when registering for Campus Day the kids were asked for their t-shirt size. So we know they’ll get (at least) that when in Ann Arbor for the visit.

Congrats
The letter is coming probably in a few weeks as stated on a campus day but also when you register for classes in the summer and major hint… Join clubs, activities, groups on campus. My son has so much swag after 4 years. Anything from starting his own org on campus of course they had their own shirt, to working in different capacities for Michigan to joining other clubs etc. He basically wore Cubs and Michigan gear there… Lol…

UMich is well-loved by my DS and is a clear first choice right now. The only thing we’re waiting on is any regular decision admittances in late March. If he gets into one of the reach schools, he may need to visit both schools to make a final choice. If he is deferred or denied at these reach schools, then it’s UMich for fall 2024! While it would be awesome to visit the campus beforehand, he did visit last spring and is comfortable moving without another visit.

How difficult would it be to book last minute hotels and activities for an accepted student day?

I’m desperately waiting for that acceptance package bc I hope UMICH gives cool stuff🤣, most I’ve gotten so far just gave stickers. My friend at UVA got shoelaces and a cute box.

Well, I can tell you that at least one of the Campus Day dates in March is already full for LSA. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that others are as well. TBH I’d book and cancel and eat the $15 (or $35 if with guests) if you wind up not coming.

Sorry; I’m new here. When you say “first batch” do you mean EA?
