Not worrying, but anxious. Some people suffer more than the others… lol.
These are rolling updates, so not being able to sign up may not mean rejection. But being able to, definitely would be a great sign - my opinion.
FWIW, some have argued that it’s a mixed bag in past couple of years, questions as to whether there is a yield game or not. I have an OOS nephew who applied LSA (philosphy/mandarin) 2 years ago and got deferred then waitlisted. Did have one B+, didn’t play a sport, but had amazing ECs - but still had an amazing weighted GPA and a 1590 and was a NMF. (also 2 grandparents and both parents legacy). Same application cycle, in-state nephew got in LSA then CS, also had top stats, but not nearly as unique and lauded in his ECs. OOS nephew maybe was the one B+ or no sport, or maybe was yield… the kids from the OOS high school who did get in had less rigor (but still stellar candidates).
Good point. When this happened last week with UMass, business and int’l had access first and then it trickled in and the decision came out like 30 mins later. Obviously I can’t say with 100% accuracy but this is what the thread indicated. It was choppy.
I hope you guys are right about it being rolling. I can’t sign up with a tour right now but im praying I’ll be able to a few hours before decisions
Exactly. Like when it asks to login. It says wrong password and asks to reset password.
FYI. Michigan doesn’t take weighted GPA they are all unweighted and no more legacy at Michigan.
can anyone sign up for a tour
Just a refresher, from the most recent CDS:
And also note in the next section they “Recommend” the SAT or ACT.
as an international student doing IB, what would be a good IB predicted to be a competitive applicant for early action? out of 45.
I don’t think anyone has signed up for a tour successfully they might think that they can because the calendar pops up when you click the link. Also don’t stress everyone will be fine!
Have they expressed no more legacy - because the Michigan app not only asked to list years and degrees for parents and grandparents, but also asked to list jobs at U of M by any parents or grandparents. Very few other schools had a question in the main app this year so specific to names/degrees and dates/year of employment. I’m sure it may have much less of an impact than in years prior, but why would they keep so many questions if they didn’t at least factor that into demonstrated interest?
I saw that. Wondering if they will admit anyone without scores?
They’ve admitted test-optional students from my high school in the past
I think the University requests information for tracking and other informational purposes, not for admissions. But I agree that it certainly could be viewed as an indicator for demonstrated interest.
Thanks. Just find it interesting. But perhaps its all marketing and alumni engagement.
My family did a mock admissions exercise last year with three applicants with very different applications. We had to admit one, waitlist one, and deny one. I recall one of the applicants was a legacy and had visited the campus for a tour. You can’t unsee “legacy” or a campus tour, and in my review, they meant something. Not that they will give any candidate a true leg up but if it came down to identical applicants, and one is a legacy and one is not??? IDK.
FWIW, we’ve had numerous posts from disappointed legacy applicants or parents of legacy applicants over the years here on CC.
We’ve heard the phrase “they’re never getting another dollar out of me" from time to time.
Frankly there are too many freakin’ legacies for it to make a meaningful difference on an application!
I believe the “marketing and alumni engagement” comment above is accurate, when it comes to admissions.
In the past, we’ve had legacy applicants receive “different” emails from other applicants. Maybe not every communication, but some communications from admissions specifically target parents of the applicants and the applicants (e.g., “softer” RD rejections).
