There have been twin’s of legacies almost every year. Lots of times one gets in and one doesn’t even with pretty identical applications.
@whatsmyusername1 so it is on the common data set and they took off legacy as something that was important a few year’s ago and I believe it is stated on their admission website but yes,They still ask for it. But lots of legacies have gotten rejected the last few year’s so make of it what you will. Legacy was a thing to a point over 8 years ago. Maybe it was tipped the scales on some applicants??
Question - almost all other schools my daughter applied to has sent emails about things like financial aid, random information about the school, etc. She has received nothing from Michigan. Her email address is correct in the portal, I just wonder if this is just the modus operandi for the school, or are others receiving communications?
I haven’t received much from UMich either on the email front. I think it’s just how they operate
When we attended the UMich info session last spring someone asked if legacies have an admission advantage and the admissions person said mostly no. They said it is sometimes a factor when admitting waitlisted applicants because legacy applicants are more likely to attend.
Anecdotally, its the legacies that mostly get accepted to U-M from my large public top ranked OOS high school. Not all legacies are accepted, but the kids accepted are either the academic superstars &/or legacies.
You will get a boatload of stuff when accepted… Not much prior
Feel free to reach out to financial aid and etc. They are very helpful.
Does UM typically release decisions at 3 pm ET?
Yes
Will we have any confirmation beforehand or will it just be a waiting game to see if it’s in the portal at 3:00?
Yes.
Waiting game. Set your phone to vibrate and to this site with the notification. If it’s gonna happen you will know it.
They don’t intentionally pre-announce
My son is super stressed for tomorrow because he got deferred from both Georgetown and USC, we’re hoping mich works out!!
Get ready, you’re in the same league, most people will be deferred.
Good luck to your son, these schools are all so tough.
in case tomorrow is the day…good luck to all
btw, for all those who were as confused as i was…
my OOS student logged into the portal; then tried to book a tour; and received a message on the click through “for admitted students only, if you think this is an error, click contact us.”
so i don’t think anyone is able to book an appointment.
Per above press release. Decisions will be released at the end of January at 5PM EST onwards…!!
I can get into this page, not sure if it means anything though.
