University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2025

Likely approximately the same chances they’d have if they just applied RD.

And what would that be if you don’t mind?

I know this is kind of late, but if anyone is ever looking back on this in the future, admitted OOS LSA with very, very subpar ECs  There is hope!

Mechanical Engineering, 1530 SAT, 41/45 IB Predicted, research and innovation/invention based extracurriculars along with other music and miscellaneous stuff. I got deferred. Lost hopes for G-Tech (dream) and other reaches :disappointed:. I’m preparing to go to Purdue, now.

Turn your let-downs into motivators, and go for your dreams.

Although it may seem not, at this moment, the school you go to is a teeny-tiny factor in where you end up in your career.

Anyone who tells you otherwise, has no experience with the power of self-motivation.

My son is a sophomore mechanical engineering major at Purdue. Had been postponed, then waitlisted at Michigan. LOVES Purdue and is doing great there. I wish you the best of luck!

Take heart, you could still very well find yourself at Michigan! Purdue is an absolute gem though, highly recommend you visit if you havent already. It was the first school we visited and we compared every other university visit to it thereafter, including Mich. Such a vibrant, spirited community. Stay positive!

OOS Purdue is so much cheaper than UMich!

Girl I know, 1580 SAT, valedictorian at a competitive HS, great ECs and essay, got deferred, then waitlisted at UMich. She enrolled in Purdue’s engineering program, and then got off the waitlist at UMich at the end of June. She said nah, I’m sticking with Purdue and is loving it now!

For those that were deferred, are you writing the 250 words offered as a place to talk about continued interest, a new accomplishment or just choosing not to fill it out?

Take advantage of the 250 words.

In our case D has 4.0 unweighted GPA in very rigorous Fall courses and strong Fall ECs.

The grade report will speak for itself, and the ECs were already mentioned in the EA application (which will be re-read).

So, our 250 will have one sentence talking about grades and ECs. The other 240 or so words will be a love letter about what her goals are and how Michigan is the best fit for her to achieve them.

You can google “LOCI” for lots of advice, you’ll find some specific to Michigan; pick your poison.

is there a deadline date for LOCI?

‘why college/school’ is also in the EA application which will be re-read.

March1?

Also, does anyone know how to report 2 sets of sat scores now on the portal after being deferred? Looks like only one score can be submitted

If you got deferred, it was not strong enough.

Plenty of discussion on web about grades being the space under the bar and essay about “fit” being the bar.

Talk to the authoritative source: Admissions… they won’t bite

There’s no way to know that with certainty. Might be true, might not be true for any given applicant.

Just because it’s on the web doesn’t make it true.
