Still Deferred ED (we think). No info on the portal. No update last week at all. Nothing at all. No email. No “tabs” changing. Complete silence. OOS. 35 ACT. 4.5 GPA. SAT2- Math 2: 790. SAT2- Bio: 740. Legacy. Great LORs, volunteer work. Varsity athlete. 2 LOCI. Very active with alumni association. Accepted at Ivy League school Thursday. Just do not understand UM’s process given some of the information shared by others here. Good luck to everyone.
still no decision here either
It’s perfectly true.
I’ve been lurking here since my daughter was deferred in December and thought I should post her result to help others/add to the stats. She was accepted on Friday 3/29–OOS, LSA, 33ACT, 3.95GPA, 3 sport, 4 year varsity athlete (but won’t play in college), lots of school leadership roles. She is thrilled and has some decisions to make now. Thanks all for the helpful information here and good luck everyone.
I think it’s awful if it’s true that deferred candidates that wrote extra letters or had people write letters to AO were accepted over higher credential candidates that followed the instructions. They specifically said do not send anything we don’t request. I guess that was BS
Okay. I am deferred still and the letter said I will hear in early April. If the decision is not in by April 4th, should I email the regional AO?
@kmnmom I am sorry your daughter wasn’t accepted but it sounds like it was far from her top choice and she is quite happy with where she was going. I think most of us are finding this college process surprising. While my daughter wasn’t as lucky as yours getting only 1 rejection, she did get some great acceptances, some that were surprising. We are just focusing on the positives and are confident that she’ll be happy with whatever she chooses.
By the way, Michigan doesn’t have ED.
Has anyone else that got waitlisted not received an email yet?
Hi mc…
I think it’s always good to show interest… if anything for the candidate to express their desires. Not sure if weighs much on admissions decisions unless as they say something significant has happened.
As far as “higher credential candidates”. With the Holistic approach anymore there is less a clear cut definition of just what that is really. I had a high school religion teacher who always drilled in our minds that he would rather have someone who consistently applied themselves and excelled because of their efforts over an individual with ability who slacked off and went about things just enough…
So yes sometimes the person who looked to game the stats gets stepped over by the one who is willing to take that leap of faith. There is an intangible amount of heart and soul that cannot be out quantified by stats that are in reality just a little bit better and nominally significant at best.
So yes it does and should happen if meaningful.
Keeping the faith
@PrdMomto1, did not know about no ED. Clearly, we did not do our homework! Yes, we consider ourselves very fortunate that she had many options and like you hope that her final decision will be the right one. Best of luck to your daughter!
HI! i was deferred early action but have still not received a decision… does anyone know when the next wave is going to be released. would really like to find out soon.
@mcfamilyof4. Not sure where your getting that assumption from but it’s not the highest stats that win admissions. They are building a class. They are taking what they need to do so. That changes yearly. Also the letter doesn’t state that you can’t show interest. They just don’t want more referral letters, awards sent etc.
They even have a form letter that states they will note that the loci was sent in their chart. Some will differ with this.
Also sending a loci or LOI, letter of interest, should be done early in the process.
Does anyone know long it takes UMich to send out financial aid award letter after being admitted. And are they generous with OSS kids.
Deferred EA --still waiting to hear something back from Michigan… Maybe something this week? I reluctantly called admissions and they mentioned “sometime before April 15”
Still deferred EA. Applied CoE, Instate. Seems like most of the deferred from my high school have heard back with rejection/waitlist.
tried logging in at 4:30 ish AM EST and it says that there are maintenance issues now. Maybe a release today?
D let UMich know she is not attending. Hopefully this leaves a spot early for those who really wanted to attend. Good luck to the rest of those who are still waiting. UMich is an awesome school and the love for the school is unparalleled to anything I’ve seen on CC (And it’s a great thing, so don’t accuse me of berating anyone here for their love of UMich). I am and will always be rooting for the Wolverines over the Spartans.
@Nhatrang - Good luck to your daughter! And thanks for opening a spot. I just talked to my daughter last night about doing the same with some of the schools she’s ruled out. There is no need for her to hold a spot she knows she won’t take!
Yield is built into the admission offers. When one person declines, it is not an even opportunity to open up an equal spot.
Anyone else feeling like the last kid picked for the team on the playground?
