University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

Has anyone been able to see their financial aid award yet?

We’re able to click on the year but it says 0.

I got waitlisted for LSA in-state, do any of you know when we might start hearing back by?

@sarahmia here’s a trail for waitlisted applicants http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/2134352-university-of-michigan-2023-waitlisted-applicants.html

Son was waitlisted COE international RD
1520 SAT, 800 maths ll, 770 physics, 110 toefl,
4.22 unweighted on a scale of 4.3
Decent EC, stuco, pretty decent essays and LOR should also be good because teachers had always appreciated my son.

Can’t understand this game of yield protection. He was waitlisted at UIUC too. Ivy leagues look like lottery and these institutes wont take you thinking u would get somewhere else.

He has USC, purdue, BU, Case, UCSD . Will be going to USC viterbi.

@YoopOfM Congrats! Do not concern yourself with defending your good fortune. My son has much lower numbers than a lot of folks I see posting in here. However, UM actively sought him out. They appeared at his high school in September and gave him the HAIL scholarship before he had applied to ANY school, much less UM. UM was on his radar of course, we live in MI, but it was not his top choice. I hope the fact that he got 5 other rejections will satisfy everyone. Actually, I don’t care. :slight_smile: I am glad that it is not all about numbers and they look at the total package. Congrats to everyone. To those that didn’t make it yet, I’m sorry and wish you well wherever you end up.

YoopOFM…are you a Yooper?

I am still deferred, does anyone know the next time they release another wave?

@rjkofnovi yes I am!

@Mom2023UM what was his stats if you don’t mind telling? I got the HAIL scholarship but got rejected.

Is there a group me for accepted students?

Hi everyone, my daughter applied to CoE EA, was deferred sometime in Jan and offically rejected yesterday. This was her only deferralrejection; she applied to 11 schools. She was above the median grade/score requirements by a decent amount and has a well rounded resume (sports, leadership, clubs, community service, part-time job, runs a program introducing elementary school kids to engineering, etc.) We are OOS, so if she had applied ED and committed to full pay, the outcome may have been different. However, she was not serious about attending and only applied because she heard “people like it there.” We offered to take her for a visit and she declined. She committed to Ohio State about a month ago, so ironically enough U-M is now a rival! Michigan admissions figured her out and made the right choice in not giving her a spot coveted by many others, but it seems they have failed a lot of you who have posted on this page. I hope you reach out to them so you can learn more about how these decisions came about because you have worked very hard and showed tremendous interest in attending. College admissions is like meteorology; there really are no consequences for bad calls. They hold your future in their hands, and the weight of that responsibility should never be lost on them. Hold them accountable and demand an explanation. You deserve that much. At the same time, you will likely have a better experience attending a school where your talents are more appreciated, and where they are excited to have you as part of their community versus letting you in at the last minute to fill a spot intended for someone else. My daughter didn’t just want to feel lucky to be accepted, she wanted the college to feel lucky to have her. Michigan is acting like an Ivy, and if current events have taught us anything, it’s that Ivies aren’t necessarily as interested in cultivating high academic achievers as they are in growing their endowment and meeting cultural demands. Good luck to all in this next phase of life. You will no doubt be successful wherever you end up!

My D also accepted OSU. Her original plan was GaTech CS but got notification of second year transfer. In a rush, she then applied OSU UWM and Michigan. OSU UWM accepted. Mich waitlisted… guess she is going to UWM.

Did anyone make a discussion yet for 2023 waitlisted?

Yes, there is one setup already.

Our kids are in the same department! Fun! We love UIUC! Glad your dd is happy.

@rjkofnovi yes I am!”

Of course! Congrats on your admission! Michigan wants to have students from all over the state represented on campus.

Oh please, enough already…

UMich probably wasn’t my kid’s 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice, but you grow where you’re planted. Now nowhere else, but UMich, would have felt right.

Life is full of disappointments, you get knocked down (again and again) and you pick yourself up and move on.

Still no decision. Should I email my regional officer? Deffered OOS LSA
