University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

@woodbury123 I knew it would come with reactions like that, but I just figured I’d put in here because people like @sushiritto and @Nhatrang have helped me so much I figured I would try and get some more statistics in. Believe what you want. Good luck to all.

@yoopOfM so why do you think you were accepted? What was the special thing you had?

@woodbury123 I really don’t know to be honest. I really just think it came down to me really feeling like I belonged at Ross, so my essays must have reflected that.

Waited until the email notification to check but here’s my results

COE Waitlisted

GPA: UW 3.71/ W ~4.32 (don’t remember exact but it doesn’t matter for UofM)
ACT:36
SAT:1560, Chemistry: 800, Math 2: 800
NMF
National AP Scholar

I’d say average ECs and essays

Looks like I’ll be going to Berkeley (not by any means a bad outcome) but I’m accepting a spot on the waitlist because UofM is still at the top of my list.

No one needs to explain anything. @YoopOfM congrats and good luck in the future.

@YoopOfM congrats and ACT scores are such a small part of the whole package. Speaking a former recruiting manager for a power hitter accounting firm, I am disappointed in the rude and shallow comments of @woodbury123. My advice is to gain some humility and see past numbers in future endeavors. The “package” is the game changer. Again congratulation to @YoopOfM.

@Knowsstuff I’m so sorry I completely forgot to thank you for being such a large help in this process as well!

Just for stats purposes
admitted to lsa at 8:15 am today
1380 sat 4.0uw gpa with 4.0 first semester grades
good essays good ecs legacy and Hispanic I did send and loci almost everyone in my school was waitlisted

@YoopOfM. No problem. Keep proving everyone wrong. Good Luck.

@woodbury123 You are seeing all these over qualified kids with 4.0+ GPA and 1500+ SAT either rejected or waitlisted cuz of yeild protection. I don’t know why there are so big on it this year, but this was a major issue with NEU last year. All my Ivy friends got rejected from NEU. It sucks for the smart kids who genuinely want to get in. But colleges be like that in the name of rankings.

@YoopOfM got admitted because not only think does UM thinks she/he’s qualified, but also likely to commit. They believe those with higher GPA and test scores are likely to commit somewhere else.

still nothing

Well, Daughter was finally notified that she was rejected from COE after being deferred.
OOS
ACT- 33
Top 5% of class
4.6 GPA
Numerous ECs, etc. yada, yada, yada

It’s all good. This was the only school that rejected her. She’s deciding between engineering at U of I, Purdue, Boston University, UW Madison, and U Delaware Honors. A hearty congrats to everyone who got in.

@Allyr22 I just want to say that my heart breaks for you. Your stats are phenomenal and clearly you worked incredibly hard to be where you are and receive those scores. You are an amazing student. You have the smarts to succeed anywhere. I am so sorry you didn’t get your top choice – you deserve your top choice. You REALLY do! I don’t even know you and I feel so sad for your disappointment.

My son WL too.

@YoopOfM Congratulations!!! Test scores are not everything. I’m sure you are a great student and U-M knows that. Good luck!

For those admitted, do you guys see your financial aid award already? Or does it just say 0 when you click on the hyperlink?

@UMICHCSLSA good point and they also want to bring in students they feel will bring a great balance to what the school has to offer and not boost up average GPA/Test score. Schools are ranked on a large variety of categories and therefore need students that will add value to all those areas. The days of simply grades and test scores determining college acceptance are over. Similar case also as people enter the workforce. It’s the entire package.

OOS LSA- Waitlisted
32 ACT, 4.0 UW, 4.4017 W, good last semester grades, strong ECs, 3 APs (school only offers 3), dual enrollment at local community college, good letters of rec.
At the end of the day, I did all that I could do. I accepted my spot on the waitlist but I definitely know I won’t get off of it. Congrats to everyone who got in though!!

Where is your daughter going? My son also applied to UIUC, Purdue, and Wisconsin. Got in all,of them and his first choice is UIUC for Electrical engineering. He’s so happy.

@adaorange - same here. Daughter will be going to UIUC for Computer Engineering. She is waitlisted at umich and the defferel and the 3 month long wait made her lose interest in Michigan. She did not want to wait anymore.
