University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

@joelen09 Kinda strange. I’ve said this before, but tabs can disappear anywhere from hours to days to weeks before a “wave.” Last year, someone received a decision on a Tuesday after the Friday wave. So, maybe tomorrow or this week? :-??

Just got accepted into LSA after my decision tab disappeared earlier today! OOS (NY) 3.7 GPA 34 ACT

Congrats Mich_NY

Did you get an Email as well?

The Best is Yet to Come…

My timing is impeccable. O:-)

Interesting comparison of OOS students enrollment %. Personally, I look for a school with a mix of students. I understand it’s a funding issue as much as anything else, but diversity of students is good if you attend college within your state or go out of state.

@sushiritto There were a lot more nursing and kinesiology people accepted than you are reporting. I would know since I am one of them (OOS 31 ACT 4.2 GPA for nursing).

@floridagirl17 Please post their CC names and I can search their posts. Or better yet, please list the post #’s. It’s entirely possible that I missed a few, I’m not perfect and this isn’t my job.

Also UMich doesn’t use weighted GPA, so I can only add UWGPA to the list.

@Mich_NY Congratulations! What time did you hear?

Question, would it be acceptable to send an email to my AO counselor, or is that just annoying? I sent in my LOCI as soon as I was deferred in December and emailed her a few weeks later to see if they received my letter in the mail.

Personally, I think it would be kind of annoying, considering how you’ve already emailed them twice, but idk

Does anyone know how much GPA is valued compared to test scores??

@batatachal GPA according to their common data set is considered most important, while test scores are just important. That is the best evidence we have. Unless someone has great insider information, they are guessing if they say otherwise

@batatachal I think they put a tremendous amount of weight on GPA. My S got a 1590 SAT in one sitting and 800 SAT Math II, good ECs, tons of AP classes, good essays, but a 3.71 UW and is still deferred. Basically seems like he is not getting in and GPA is his only readily perceivable weak point.

Ah ha! Post #1521

So, @floridagirl17 I actually had your entry Post #1521 literally at the bottom of my page of notes and I mistakenly omitted it. My apologies. However, I searched “nursing” on the EA, EA Deferred, RD threads and could not find anyone other than you for nursing. When I revise my #'s, in a day or two, I’ll add your post for nursing.

What’s funny is that in post #1782 (3/3) on the EA thread, in response to a question about nursing admits in the March 1st wave, I said:

I had it, but I glossed over my notes. ~X(

I know this has been said before but this is about yield protection for those with very high scores and grades, if you really want to go to UMich you need to convince them that you are actually going to attend it admitted.

@CaptainRonnie I have pretty much the same stats. Hopefully at least a spot on the waitlist is in our future.

@CU123 but how does one do this if we have already applied/sent in a letter? I am started to feel like my essay, which had a lot of detail about the school, may not be enough

also with my son, NMF, high test scores but 3.6 UW GPA. Lots of APs and extras. Deferred EA - still waiting. crossing fingers.

@batatachal I have twins, both applied EA. One daughter was accepted EA - 3.96 UW, 1530 SAT, Gold Award, sports, top ten national HOSA . The other daughter was deferred EA - 3.93 UW, 29 ACT (bad test anxiety), leadership, sports. Both are IBDP. She remains deferred. So, I’m not sure if grade point is more important in this case.

I think we are beyond yield protection at this point. If you were deferred and 1) did not get admitted to an ED school, and 2) have sent a sincere LOCI, UM admissions will consider your application on the merits.
