University of Michigan Class of 2028 Official RD Thread

waitlist :face_holding_back_tears:

D24 got in College of Engineering, waiting on CS advance selection. She was EA deferred. Interestingly she was deferred by only two EA schools, GaTech and UMich, and then got in both in RD.
Edit: we were able to sign up for the admitted student tours.

waitlisted

waitlisted OOS for astrophysics!! honestly shocked, my results haven’t been going very well lately so that was pretty unexpected. Does anyone know how much the waitlist normally moves and how to get higher up on it? I honestly applied to Michigan on a limb but I’m starting to really like it, so I’m definitely going to keep it in the back of my mind.

My daughter is afraid to open hers. For those that were rejected or waitlisted did the messages section look like this?

Waitlisted oos. Curious also about improving chances. In the meantime, deciding between Case, GWU, & OSU. (We’re in Ohio.)

Last year Michigan offered a waitlist spot to 26,898 students. 18,321 accepted the waitlist and 955 or 5.2% were accepted off the waitlist. Most universities do not rank their waitlist and use it to fill open spots by major or college.

Rejected (sort of surprised). This was my last decision. Looks like I will for sure be a Boston terrier!

If I remember correctly, last year had a very high number of students admitted off the waitlist versus previous years. The acceptance off of the waitlist is usually less than 1%.

I don’t understand how that works, if they don’t rank, how do they decide who to offer a spot to?

Think of buckets. If they need a full-pay male tuba player from OOS, then they’re not taking a FA in-state female ice hockey player.

got it!

So no one will know till after May 1st. You might not hear till mid June. Just move on. If by stroke of lighting you get it then you will have a decision to make. Start to narrow down what your choice of college will be. Good Luck.
