University of Michigan Class of 2028 Official RD Thread

6th and final WL tonight from UM.

Thankfully, S24 got his #1 choice Wednesday. I am fascinated by all the waitlists and will be curious how it all shakes out.

My son was one of the kids who came off waitlist for fall 2023. He found out end of June and took the spot. He’s very happy and is now finishing up his freshman year!

agreed. i was already rejected from two of my dream schools so waitlist is killing me. i have a couple of other options, which is good, but i’d like to keep that little itty bitty tiny shred of hope i have left for this school, just to see what happens.

Same here for my daughter, we accepted our spot on the waitlist.

How did they notify him when accepted off the waitlist?

Anyone know how long you have to decide if you do get an offer from the waitlist? Also, Michigan is still using the May 1 date? Lots of other schools have moved to May 15th so was curious as to why they haven’t done the same given all of the FAFSA problems.

Nope. Follow the rules they ask for. Following the rules is part of this. They don’t need anymore information. I would suggest getting excited about your current opportunities. The wait list this year might be very small.

They sent an email that there was an update to his admissions status. He already accepted a spot in the honors college at Florida State. We had about two weeks to make a decision. We quickly went on a tour and he decided that day to take the spot. Another student in his high school got the same offer. They both accepted. We are OOS, NY.

Just out of curiosity…Do you pay ā€œfull freightā€ to use a term from back when I was in college?

I’m in no way minimizing your child’s credentials, but I think it is highly likely that OOS tuition rules the day on the WL.

Like others said, I bet it depends what they need. If they lose a bunch of instate kids, I bet they fill with instate waitlist kids.

I think they try to hit a consistent ratio year to year on instate v. OOS.

Just curious if anyone who was admitted applied TO. D24 was deferred EA and decided to withdraw her application before RD. She had a 4.0 UW and solid ECs but went TO since her SAT wasn’t as strong. She decided to go ahead and accept at our in-state flagship that was offering her everything she wanted at less than half the price.

Congrats to those accepted! My husband and I went to grad school at UMich and it’s a great place.

D deferred and then waitlisted. Not going to take spot, still holding on to the Wisco waitlist spot. Will likely lock down either Syracuse or IU honors.

My D23 was accepted OOS from the waitlist last year (LSA Data Science). UM sent an email on June 9 but it went to her JUNK folder so she didn’t see it. Then she received the Welcome envelope in the mail on June 16 and she was given until June 19 to decide. Ultimately she chose to stick with her original choice (UCSD). Encourage your students to check their JUNK folders!!!

Did he have trouble getting on campus housing?

Michigan explicitly states in the waitlist letter on the portal that they do not want any additional information. Submit at your peril.

D24 accepted after deferral in EA! DH and I already had a dinner reservation with her tonight to celebrate her 18th birthday and she told us she got accepted after we were all dressed up and ready to go. We are so happy she will be joining D21 at Michigan next year!

Do you mind providing what their major/college was upon getting off the WL?

Son got in LSA. 35 ACT, 4.0/4.7. It was a last minute application for RD but now we are going there next weekend to see campus and decide if this can overtake his other school he thought he would attend. This whole practice is very stressful.

Nope. Ended up in South Quad and got football and basketball tickets. LSA Biology major.

They offer either the Sports Immersion Program or MAES Winter Cohort depending on major. Only waitlisted students can apply. You may lose your spot on the waitlist but the reality is there is little movement on the waitlist for Kines.
