You will love it!!
WL for data science/cs/statistics as OOS. Had a 3.8UW/4.5W GPA. is iti there still a chance for me to get off the waitlist? also when is the earliest someone can be taken off the waitlist? thanks.
Earliest⦠That depends on their needs. They evaluate that as they go. But May 1st is when everyone needs to commit or not commit. So itās very likely you will put a deposit down elsewhere and get excited by your choices currently. Getting off the wait list is a rare event. In other words donāt count on it. If in mid June you get a notification thatās when youāll have a choice.
Anytime after May 1st is fair game but with the increased applications etc this year⦠I just wouldnāt count on it.
You will be great whenever you go.
thanks, iām deciding on going to cal poly slo!
Itās an awesome school. Congratulations
SLO is the 2nd best university in the country.
I did this once waitlisted.
My son too! Waitlisted at Michigan and going with SLO.
If a student is admitted from the waitlist (rare I know) do they still get to live in a dorm - is there still room? And, able to buy football tix?
A waitlist admit would just be filling a empty spot in a predetermined class size. Itās not like Michigan would be overenrolled by taking a student off the waitlist. A waitlist admit, however, might not get their preferred dorm.
Corrected (thanks @CCName1) : Football tickets for incoming freshmen can be ordered between the dates of June 17 and June 27, 2024.
Plenty of students not on the waitlist wonāt get their preferred dorm, either. Each year, there is panic and an outcry from freshman parents in the summer because their kids were placed in Markley or Baits or similar. No one prefers them, lots of people get them, and itās more or less ok.
Also, ticket sales for current students was today. It wonāt be until summer ā I think June ā for incoming freshmen.
Came back in here to congratulate the (few) folks who got in during RD this year and to encourage/support those on WL. I am a Michigan alum.
My sons went to the same Northern Virginia (NOVA) public high school. They have virtually the same GPA (3.9 UW/4.3 W), SATs (1480 v 1500) and APs (9 v 10) and ECs.
S21 was deferred EA, admitted RD at Michigan, and now a happy Wolverine in LSA, Econ major/Ross minor. He was rejected by UVA.
S24 was deferred EA, waitlisted RD by Michigan but admitted EA to UVA. Based on S21 and othersā experience with with similar GPA/test scores at our high school who were rejected by UVA (including legacy, URM and URM+legacy), we didnāt expect S24 to get in. But there you go. S24 is happy to go to UVA, and so is our bank account.
These outcomes were good for our sons, despite the randomness of the process. It was definitely worse this year, and will only get worse next year.
I urge everyone to take a deep breath, think carefully and then move on. If you make it of WL, thatās great, but thereās a big world out there with many great schools. Yāall will be fine at any one of them! Good luck and God Bless!
got this email from UMICH after being waitlisted āIs your FAFSA still incomplete? Donāt worry. As long as your CSS Profile was submitted by March 31 and you complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, you will be considered for all types of financial aid. If you havenāt already, please submit your FAFSA and CSS Profile as soon as possible. Funding is still available. For more information about applying for aid, visit the Office of Financial Aid website. Our team is ready to work with students and families one-on-one to navigate the unique circumstances of their aid application now and into the future. Your financial aid package is waiting!ā
Why would they offer me a financial aid package if still on a waitlist? lol
D24 got selected for CS major! I guess the school did reserve some CS advance selection spots for RD.
Thanks. Realized this was actually in response to me.
S24 is super happy. Iām a Michigan alum, Michigan was definitely in his top 3-4 schools, but he got into his #1 (Vanderbilt) two nights before, so the Michigan decision was kind of superfluous. More of a curiosity really.
But the overall number of WL was surprising to meā6 waitlists, and kind of from a variety of schools. All good schools, but itās not like itās a bunch of Ivys (Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, BC, BU, and Wake).
Again, alls well that ends well. But man, the process is so hard to figure out.
did any other waitlisted applicants recieve a financial aid notice?
We didnāt but also marked that we arenāt seeking aid. I recall Michigan asked about it in the application.
Yes, we did yesterday.
Yes, my student did as well.
My daughter just received an email about applying to the MAES winter cohort (Kinesiology). Does anyone have any experience with this program?
