Has anyone received an invite to apply to the winter cohort specifically for Exercise science? It said all waitlisted students were invited to apply. Lots of questions and their is a info session soon but just curious if anyone knew anything about it.
was typing at the same time as you!
I have been looking back at past yearsâ threads to see if I could find someone who was in the program. I signed up for the info session next week.
us too- there is a very informative page on the website.
S24 got into 2 EA schools, one RD, and got WL at six schools (2 Ivy, 4 not), and one full rejection. Heâs disheartened bc heâd hoped to have more choices (his RD is not really a good fit for him) and the six WL are more his vibe but we know he has to make a decision based on what he knows. I feel like this whole process has been a crapshoot.
I share your sentiments. This whole process has been frustrating to say the least. All the hard work and we are left with a couple of yes, and a whole lot of WLs. I am not questioning anything about the method - just saying that as a parent I feel helpless watching what my kid is going thru right now.
Same here on the Wait Lists. 15 applications and landed on 6 WL. Which I did not anticipate. Just thought it would be mostly up or down votes.
Curious if weâll learn whether this was a heavy WL year, just normal, a new normal?
For S24, he managed to thread the needle getting into his ED school after getting deferred. But in hindsight, it really feels like he very narrowly navigated the process.
Our daughter was accepted to the MAES winter cohort last year (winter 2024). It is a great program that allows the student to start in winter in a small group. If accepted, the upside is you get into Kines, she will graduate on time with the class that starts in the fall plus they get to work with the athletic teams during the summer. Downside is they cannot start until January 2025 and have to take classes over the summer. You will lose your waitlist spot if you apply but the reality is the chances of getting off the watilist for fall 2024 are slim. If accepted to the winter cohort, they get in.
Thank you so helpful! Do you know how many were in her cohort? Did she have to find off campus housing?
Not sure of the total number that were accepted. My daughter ended up taking classes this past fall at our state university (which is not allowed) and re-applied as a transfer. I do believe they try and get them housing but I donât think its guaranteed.
My kid is debating it. It looks like a good opportunity, but unsure if they would get in or if there is any aid for OOS. They got into Berkeley for bio. That in state tuition is hard to beat and they could start in the fall.
We are in Florida and receive full tuition with the bright futures scholarship, its hard to pass up. She is also not sure if she wants to take a semester off. We plan on doing the info session next week and will see how she feels about it.
So, It sounds like our high school in south Florida had at least 5-6 kids accepted (if everyone being truthful lol) that we know of.
Exactly zero of those accepted are going to attend or ever really had any serious intention of doing so as far as I can tell
Mine were postponed from EA and ultimately waitlisted (still). All very same stats, etc.
We own property in northern Michigan, have presence there and kids have spent summers there for years and winter holidays and have a community of friends at both MSU and UM and many visits to UM. Cant get much more of a sure thing for a kid from sunny south Florida to go to Michigan.
This isnt a complaint and mine have equally great options on colleges and I will save a TON of money, but it is interesting especially in light of all of the yield talk etc. The kids accepted are amazing and they all have very similar stats (mine included). Interesting that demonstrated interest and skin in the game so to speak with ties/house in Michigan doesnât seem to be a tipping point on who might actually accept the offer and move to Michigan.
Question about the financial package. EA, got the estimate from Admission back in December. They also mentioned, the department would be sending a separate financial letter. Anyone got it?
Anyone considering Wisconsin instead?
We had a lot of kids from my daughterâs HS apply to schools that they couldnât afford to attend. I guess that they thought they would get big money from schools like Michigan (they predictably did not), but the effect was that some of them got spots and kids who really wanted to go to the schools did not.
Itâs a bigger issue. Due to the very vague and fuzzy âholistic reviewâ, it has become very difficult to accurately assess the acceptance chance to any college. Thus, kids largely apply to 20-30 colleges, just to make sure they wonât be kicked to the curb. Each extra acceptance they get reduces some other kidâs chances to get admitted or waitlisted.
Itâs a big problem of the holistic approach doctrine, in my opinion.
Has anyone received a merit scholarship yet? I think they come out today.
Was that announced somewhere?
The financial aid office told my husband
