University of Michigan Class of 2028 Official RD Thread

Good Friday is not a holiday at the University of Michigan. Classes are in session and offices are open.

I was deferred and I heard that sending a LOCI as soon as possible is more advantageous than sending it later because you might get a decision earlier. Is this necessarily true? I applied to LSA

From everything I have found , they no longer release decisions in waves anymore . Now it is just the one release at the end of March / beginning of April. The wave process stopped last year apparently

No. They would rather you wait and send important updates than rush to give them a bunch of fluff

The Postponed Applicants FAQ on Michigan’s undergraduate admissions page states that ā€œno preference is given for the order or date in which the form is received.ā€

My daughter plans to submit the LOCI form on March 8th when it is due. She requested her mid-year grade report right away though to make sure it arrived in time.

Hi picking up from the EA thread as it’s actually an RD question - has everyone been given the option of providing a LOCI? I assume so?

I posted this on the National Merit forum too:

U Mich was pretty explicit that you can do a continued interest letter once. My D24 was asked to do that (even though RD) and did so a few weeks ago. Does that mean she can’t update them with this info about NMSF?

Update your AO. It will be put into your file.

I’m glad you posted this. My son did not receive an email but there was a question about continued interest in his portal. He’s filling it out now as he is VERY interested!

Has Michigan changed its commitment date? Or is it still May 1

Welcome to the University of Michigan community! You need to set up a U-M login
ID (called a uniqname) and password. After you do that, an account will be set
up for you automatically.

To set up your uniqname, you will need your UMID number:

Set up your uniqname and password on the ā€œUniqname & Account Setupā€ website:
https://accounts.it.umich.edu/uniqname/verify/

For information about the setup process, see ā€œSet Up Your Uniqname and Account.ā€
https://documentation.its.umich.edu/node/672

This is an automated message; please do not reply to this email.

Deferred but just got this - what does it mean?

Also was allowed to setup my mail id?

Which I can login to - someone please help me out here

It means they have your application and you can set up the account to have access to your portal etc. It is what you use when communicating with Michigan going forward.

I think that’s a good sign. Do you have an update in your portal? My daughter set hers up and she was accepted EA. :crossed_fingers:

Seems like a great sign, the website says you can’t set it up without being accepted. I tried and my D can’t get in.

Does anyone have any clarity if School of Engineering EA Deferrals will come through on one day ā€œby early Aprilā€ or if they will come out in waves? I was told several years ago they came out in waves but have not seen or heard that in recent years. Trying to manage my Son’s expectations LOCI and interim grades were submitted 2 weeks after deferral announced… Thanks in advance!

So excited to report that my D was just accepted to UMich SMTD! She is over the moon! Middle of the school day email, too. Hope she can focus the rest of the day!
