University of Michigan Class of 2028 Official RD Thread

I relate to this very much. My senior has a really strong application in terms of grades, rigor and scores and created a varied list. I was sure she would have a great chance at M and it was so disappointing to get the deferral decision. On top of that we’ve had results all over the place with great oos acceptances at places we didn’t think she had much chance like UC schools. And then have gotten waitlisted at schools that were supposed to be likelies. Totally unpredictable and hoping (manifesting) a yes from Michigan next week for her. It has been painful, drawn out and confusing to try and make sense of it all. Unpredictable seems to be the theme for us.

Well, at least other people feel the same as we do.

Good luck with Michigan!

I guess overall, maybe it’s a good lesson? Hard work gets you so far—after that, there are just some unpredictable variables.

“Predicting” seems strong. “Hoping”? Am I correct that last year it actually went into April?

Regular Decisions came out 3/31 last year

Hey, a current college student here (checking on this forum for my little brother). out of all of my friends, some got into their dream school, some got rejected everywhere but one, and everyone I know is happy where they are. I got rejected from my ed school (boston u) and currently attend a much more selective university (carnegie mellon). college admissions are crazy!! getting waitlisted or rejected means next to nothing about your other schools and if you get rejected from your dream you will be fine! I promise it will all be ok

It’s a rough process if you let it be. With so many applicants it’s sorta a flip of a coin but maybe even those odds are to high?

I was getting pizza and beer by winning a bet from a friend of mine. Pequiods in Chicago BTW. I was wearing a National championship Michigan sweat shirt to watch Northwestern basket game on Friday for March Maddness.

This guy with his friend’s tells me he likes the sweatshirt and I am like “Go Blue”. His daughter last week just got accepted into Ross. Her other acceptances were also great schools like Kelly etc. But he said this was her true “Reach” school.

I told him what my hobby was and asked about her essay and activities that she has done etc. Everyone’s kid deserves an acceptance but this kid was like next level. All of her friends got deferred. Smaller school with not many Michigan acceptances.

Just remember. It’s NOT a reflection on you where you get accepted. It’s so hard to understand this now. It’s what the school needs in that certain moment, not what you want now.

All your kids should be already learning about their other choices. Don’t wait till after next week. It’s makes it a softer landing if they have another school or two to turn to. Those schools shouldn’t be a consolation prize in this game of college admissions. Also remember, your second, third, fourth and fifth ranked schools are someone’s else’s “Dream” or reach schools.

Your all going to do great. Just have to be an active participant at whatever school you land at. Make a difference. Your internship and job opportunities will notice that.

Good Luck next week.
