Once admitted you will get together with your advisor.
Congratulations to everyone!! Itâs May 1st⊠Hope you all made your decisions by now. . I hope everyone has a successful freshman year.
For those still on some wait lists. Research and learn about all the activities and groupâs you can join to become part of your current college community. Many decide just to stay where they are already accepted into.
Good luck to all. Still here for questions etc.
I would echo the advice to call both schools and ask for an extension. You could also try to nudge the scholarships I suppose.
We were accepted into this program yesterday. Michigan has been my sons dream school forever, but the winter start has him rethinking accepting. He is very concerned with he social aspect of not starting in the fall with all the other freshmen and how he will integrate with them come January. He was interested in greek life and feels a winter start would now take away from participating. Would love to connect with someone who has gone through this program or is currently enrolled.
Reach out to the college and ask for student ambassadors that have done it. For that program itâs not that uncommon for a winter start. He wonât be the only one and that will be a community right there. I would think the later start is worth it for this program. If his goal is Michigan then sometimes you have to take the road less traveled. Itâs becoming much more common at many universities
Itâs a fantastic program. Can also reach out to housing /fraternity about starting later and ability to join. Good luck.
Also you can rush winter term at Michigan.
Assuming your kid was accepted to SMI or MAES for their winter start programs, each program has a cohort of 50-ish students each and Michigan does a great job of assimilating all the students into the University and the Kinesiology program.
Theyâll have experiences together inside and outside the classroom, in the Spring and Summer. Michigan has had this program for about 3+ years and we havenât heard of any complaints.
As for Greek life, rush begins in the Winter semester of freshman year. Also, thereâs the Winterfest event where all of the clubs and organizations, and thereâs like 1,600 +/- of them come to try to get âyouâ to join, so plenty of opportunities to get involved there.
I know of 2 kids at my sons high school that got off the waitlist today- fyi
do you know what school they applied to in Mich? also, where are you located?
I think LSA, we are OOS very large New York Public suburban HS
thank you! good news for them!
Does anyone know-when taken off waitlist, do they email you? or do you have to keep checking your portal?
The 2 kids I know of got emails in the middle of the school day today
one more questionâŠdo you know how long they have to decide?
I do not know long they have to decide
Depends on the school. Like Ross wants to know in a few days. I would call the school if you need longer to talk to financial aid etc.
Congratulations! Our son opted in but has not heard anything yet about acceptance. He was skeptical as well of the January start. I reached out on a Michigan FB group when we first learned about the program, and several parents of students who did the program in the past responded. I had some helpful conversations over the phone with a few of them, and everyone I heard from on the phone and online raved about the program. Since the cohort does most of their SM classes together and network ahead of time in the Fall, they all said it didnât take long to meet people. Some students choose to move to AA in the Fall and get an apartment with other SMI students and work (and some boys informally rushed or start talking to fraternities). Others choose to move out in January, but they all said their kids transitioned well, and it was worth doing the program. Iâm still unsure if it is the right fit for my son (if he gets in), but if yours really wants Michigan, this is a good way to get there, even if not how he envisioned. Good luck!
We decided not to double deposit. He will be attending the Kelley School of Business this fall. While its hard to let his dream of attending the University of Michigan go, we know he will be successful at Kelley⊠He could always attending Ross for his MBA or Masters degree
Kelly is great. Congratulations!!! Good luck to your child.
Itâs a fantastic program and in all the yearâs being here never heard anything negative. They started the Winter admission a few years ago.
My son is on the waitlist too. Any updates, please post it.
