University of Michigan - Deferral Thread

^ You may try to call admission to request that. I have heard that has been done before.

If we received the “good” letter and have no decision update in WA, is it possible they just haven’t had a chance to view our application fully do to applicant volume?

Deferred LSA, 3.6 UW, 33 ACT, 11 AP’s, OOS, AP scholar with distinction and good ec’s/essays/recs

@Dmarze answered a pretty big question of mine. At least some of the deferrals have nothing to do with then the application was submitted.

@cutiedida
Hey as the one who applied to U of M for LSA, I don’t think applying to LSA wouldn’t make any difference… I mean both engineering and LSA are competetive pretty much equally

Maybe I got deferred because my stats are good enough, but just saying ;)

What is everyone going to do on out in terms of efforts to be accepted?

Will the admissions office accept another letter of recommendation?

Maybe I shouldn’t have sent two recommendation letters at first…To tell the truth I didn’t read the instruction carefully…

Gunna work hard my senior year and try and get a higher gpa than i have for midyear grades

No one is going to be deferred because they sent two recommendation letters. That is, unless one of them was terrible.

The only thing everyone can do is to send in their 7th semester grades. That’s all the admissions office is really asking for. I don’t think sending in extra letters of rec or new test scores will help.

Anyone can get letters of recs you just have to show them youre working hard in school still

Does Michigan still allow interviews? If so, would scheduling and interview help?

**an interview. Ahah woops.

SAT 2280
don’t have GPA, I think a fair school report, nothing below 80( out of 100)
just so so EC
I am staying hopeful, but there is nothing to be done now, because due to different difficulty level, my school scores almost count for nothing. (Especially when some schools in my region cheat on scores)
Good Luck for eveyone!

…is anyone eles thinking what I’m thinking? I was deferred to CoE, accepted at UIUC and Purdue…now I am thinking about the cost of going OOS! Maybe I should look at some private schools with less engineering reputation (Bucknell, Tufts) who might be able to offer a better deal? Maybe even switch my major to Chemistry and look at Boston College, or Colgate…Jan 1 is now so close. I am starting to panic, and think I may have planned my selections badly…

@erockets I have been thinking similar things. I was accepted to Wisconsin and it’s 12k cheaper than Michigan for a very similar school.

@ersnyc…Wisconsin is an awesome school. I went on a tour there and thought it was really nice. Give it a thought - I think they are especially good in Chemical Engineering. It was on my list, but so were about 20 schools, and I couldn’t manage that many essays! Now I’m kicking myself!

@erockets you can still apply regular decision! I pretty much recycled my Michigan essay for Wisconsin. I’m doing political science, but Wisconsin is also pretty great in that. I’m really feeling a school that wanted me on the first try. But wisco has very weak financial aid which is a problem.

Thanks @ersync! I have to get over my UM deferred disappointment, and get back in the game. I feel the same way about a school that wanted me on the first try! Good luck!

Deferred and devastated. UMich remains my first choice.

I got the “good” deferral letter. Does this mean the admissions office looked favorably upon my application?

Any suggestions on how to make myself a stronger candidate for the RD round? I really, really want to get in. This means the world to me.

I am incredibly nervous… is it better to email admissions ASAP or after the holiday break?
