University of Michigan - Deferral Thread

I guess they are only releasing honors college information today.

I got the deferral letter that doesn’t exactly require them (I’ll post below). Due to biting off way more than I could chew (all honors classes/Hard teachers), my grades took a bad turn 1st semester. I went from straight A’s at the end of my junior year, to 5 B’s and only 2 A’s. Would it be beneficial to still turn them in, or should I hold off?

Know you’re Michigan rep that visits your school.

@zippy0223 The Michigan admission territory rep is very helpful. You really need to make contact so they will flag your application as a serious student. I took no chances and sent my 7th semester in. If your school uses Parchment, they were probably already sent in. UICU released all decisions today so I bet some OFS spots will open up.

Please tell me we are hearing back this Friday!

maybe we really wont know till friday as they bs alot in the live chat

@billcsho - applied early in October, so was a true deferral. Thanks for the info on the Regents Scholarship. Still finding it strange that they deferred then awarded a merit scholarship.

There were students applied EA but received an e-mail saying the decision will be out in Jan due to the volume of application. Those were notified on 1/31 but were not considered deferred. I know quite a few students like that. Perhaps part of your application came in late that put you in the back of EA line although you submitted the CA in October.

I honestly think they defer when they haven’t had time to get through an application thoroughly.

That was already discussed at length earlier in the EA thread and when it became a hot topic, an official college rep from Mich weighed in and debunked it.

darn

this is what they said when i live chatted them about any decisions being released this friday.
"As far as I know, I haven’t heard of decisions being released then, but they may decide to. "

Anyone knows if they are going to release any decisions this Friday?

they will never say definitively that decisions will be released on friday

That question seriously needs to stop being asked. Nobody knows for sure and anyone that says it will is going off speculation.

Okay this is just my OWN personal opinion so take it with a grain of salt. Last year, I received my admission on Friday March 1st, which also happened to be the same day uofm went on spring break. They LOVE to admit students during a break because the counselors don’t have to respond to a bunch of emails right away. I am feeling strongly that the next round of admissions will be Feb 28th, as we go on SB that day this year. Best of luck to all!

Nice theory YBhope, but the students and faculty get spring break off. The admissions office remains open during the university’s spring break. The counselors will still be there reviewing applications.

Does anyone think that decisions will be released tomorrow? I just can’t take this waiting game anymore.

“Last year, I received my admission on Friday March 1st, which also happened to be the same day uofm went on spring break……… I am feeling strongly that the next round of admissions will be Feb 28th, as we go on SB that day this year….”

The EA notices came out at the end of December. The first round of notices to deferred people took about a month (the weekend of Friday 1/31). If the next round is on 2/28 that would would make sense. It may not be related to spring break, just that it takes them a month to get through batches.

Or they plan on releasing in monthly batches  or they are watching the commitments and deposits and adjusting accordingly.
