I’m pretty sure there is some difference between the letters. Looking through the thread, the people who posted saying they got the “good” letter tended to have SATs of 2100+ and ACTs of 31+ with pretty solid GPAs. Obviously the sample is self-selecting, anecdotal, and too small to make any broad conclusions about, but based only on somewhat inconclusive evidence, I would wager that there is a difference. There is a reason that they drafted up more than one letter.

To confirm that this is not true, please read through last year’s deferral thread.

And the year before.

And the year before that.

The letter you receive has zero bearing on your final standing.

People with all types of letters have been accepted, rejected, and waitlisted.

Please try and not further the stereotype of good and bad letters. They don’t exist.

I also received the “good” letter. In addition, they added to mine “we understand that this is not the answer you were looking for especially considering your strong family ties to the university” (both parents are alumni and my dad teaches there). I have 27 ACT 3.6 UW and too many EC to make a complet list (officer NHS, student gov rep, YAC, volunteer, etc). Hopin I make the cut!

Hoping**

The good news is this::: I am still in the game! The bad news:::: I feel impending doom…

As Tom Petty once said: “The waaaaaaaiting is the haaaaaaaard-esssst part”

my son got in COE yesterday after deferred in ED, in state, 34/3.96 (UW), 9 AP

@Pdv1313… You outwardly sound solid. Legacy with current direct ties…and yet you wait. EA deferral or regular admissions? What school? Thanks!

EA and LSA. I regret not doing nursing though, it’s way less competitive. There were problems with my application through the common app and I had to make a case that I got EA. I qualified but it doesn’t really matter cause I still don’t have an answer. I did however write my “letter of burning desire to attend the university” which they received and replied to, saying it would be taken into consideration. I’m in state so that’s going against me.

@JCooch

i have an 1850 SAT and a 3.7 gpa and i got the “good” deferral letter despite being “below” the other students who also received the good letter… i dont think its necessarily about the numbers, just how strong the application is as a whole

Amazing that LSA is more competitive than nursing! Also in state is deterrent? Wow!

So nervous! I got the good deferral letter but who know if that means anything. I am OOS 2000 SAT 92 GPA UW; 94.8 W. Hoping I get in but I feel like the longer it takes the more my chances go down

If you have read enough posts here, you will know there is no good or bad deferral letters.

@Pdv1313 if it helps you or anyone else, I received the “bad” deferral letter and I got in yesterday. I had a 2200 SAT, 4.1 W & 4.0 UW GPA, and decent extracurriculars. I really don’t think the letter matters in the grand scheme of things, I wouldn’t read into it!

I have been waiting for my admissions decision since being deferred in December and it’s starting to wear on me!! I know that they say that they’ll release decisions by mid-April, but I feel like if I haven’t gotten in by now that I won’t. Is anybody here in the same situation? I just wish that I knew so that I could make a decision of where I’ll be going in less than 6 months.

I’m in the same boat as you! For my other schools, when you send in your deposit determines your housing situation so I may withdraw my Michigan app if I don’t here soon

Hear*

Imagine for a minute this scenario…if by some chance a person had the access to see exactly WHO was the last regularly admitted student! Imagine if it were you…the last kid picked…last in line…reminds me of a song the late Ronnie James Dio sang…"…we’ll know for the first time…if we’re evil or Devine…we’re the last in line!"

I just wish I knew when I’d get my decision. Either way, I just want to know! Have people gotten rejections yet? Do they go out in waves like the acceptances?

yea we have to deal with deposits and housing situations !!! this wait sucks. ANARCHY
