@JohnGaltIII I heard that as well!
I am a U of M alumna whose daughter is waiting in agony, like many of you. I heard from a family friend who lives in A2 and has a friend on the admissions committee that as of this week, they were still reading apps and making decisions. I have absolute confidence in the source of this info.
Anyone want to make a sc group?
@JohnGaltIII anyone saying they read every single EA application before december 20 is just naive. they have certainly been playing catch up.
yeah! we should make one
Is there any truth to the “good/bad” deferral letters? Looking at previous RD and Deferral threads the trend seems to be ample amounts of WLs and rejections with minimal acceptances. Many people who received the “good” deferral letter were WL or rejected. There appears to be no evidence that shows those who received the “good” deferral letter are admitted UMich at a higher rate than those who didn’t. Personally, I received the “good” deferral letter, however my GPA is well below the average at UMich. Therefore, getting my hopes up over a minor difference in words within my deferral letter doesn’t seem like the most effective use of my time.
@BCmaryland27 What does the good deferral letter say? I got deferred too but haven’t heard of this.
@BCmaryland27… There is no good or bad letter just a myth. Ask yourself, why would they do that?
Yes someone make a sc group!!!
According to those threads, I received the “bad” deferral letter because it asked for my 7th semester grades, which were really good btw. the “good” deferral letter does not request a mid-year report.
im down for a sc group but i dont wanna post my username on here
I’m just waiting to take the L from the next wave
In state student, from inner city, & still waiting for a decision from UMich. I spent Friday/Saturday in the dorms with a friend who attends the school and was hoping to get a decision while I was there… sigh. The anticipation is awful.
@jj1999 yo i recognize u from the USC thread! Took the L too :((
@TACOBOO the deferral good/bad letters, in my opinion, mean nothing. My son received the so-called “good letter” w his deferral. When he wrote his first LOCI he received the “bad”. A couple weeks ago he wrote his second LOCI(felt there was nothing to lose at this point) and received another “good” letter. I’d like to believe the ac’s are overwhelmed and they are sending out what is immed avail to just keep in communication. I firmly believe as a parent that what will be will be and there are no real signs out there. If you are on this thread you, obviously, all show commitment, dedication, perseverance and intelligence. I not only wish my son the best but I wish all of you as well. Soon enough…!!! Hang in there, it’s out of everyone’s hands at this point.
@smileynan23 would you mind sharing what both the “good” and “bad” responses were?
The “good” deferral was the one requesting mid year grades. The “bad” deferral was the one requiring mid year grades. The “good” loci response was something like “I will continue to advocate for you”. The “bad” loci response was anything besides the “good”. Personally, I received the “good” deferral and “bad” loci response but I doubt they mean anything. The loci responses are probably just different for each regional counselor.
yeah we should create a snap group…just not down to post my snap name
So is “Strong recent grades that are available before mid-February 2018 may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision.” The bad deferral?
That’s the good
