University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

To those accepted, have you received acceptance letters in the mail yet?

Not yet @tbhbulls I think they’ll come in tomorrow or Thursday.

@rmdvnew If they have, I haven’t yet been notified either way, though it sounds like you’re an applicant so that isn’t really news to you, then. Either they’re releasing in waves (doubtful, given that at MOST they’d have 3,000 applicants [last year’s number admitted total to CoE], but in reality far fewer since the deadline pretty much limited it to EA admittees, and the geographic restriction to specific OOS states cuts it down as well), they’re only notifying winners and not losers (rude) or they’re still not yet released (most likely). There was another user earlier who said they were likely to arrive this week or next.

Fingers crossed for myself, but good luck to you as well! $80,000 is a lot of money and would certainly lessen the sting of that Michigan price tag.

Has anyone received Geisinger, Engineering Scholarship of Honor, or Shipmans?

has anyone ever gone to the financial aid office and asked for a scholarship before? i got a scholarship from UNC and i want to ask michigan to maybe try and match or semi match that to get me to go. does this work? and how do i do this?

also-- was deferred early action, sent a letter of continued interest with a huge update to my application, got a overwhelmingly positive response (admissions guy told me he gave my app the highest rating possible) and then i got in feb 5th!

@plswantmepls I don’t know if that’ll work with public unis. I’ve heard that private schools a la Ivy league, Stanford etc match your financial aid. For eg, if you get say 10000/yr from Brown and 5000/yr from Yale (assuming you get in) if you tell Yale that you got 10k from Brown, then they’ll match it.

@McKilla99 @plswantmepls it’s certainly worth a try, and may be a part of my playbook going forward depending on other upcoming decisions and how much aid I end up with. I highly doubt they’d decrease your aid because of it, so there wouldn’t be much harm in trying…

@whizkid98 hey let me know when you receive your letter-- thanks!

If decisions are being released in waves, does anyone have any idea when the next wave might be? They always seem to release decisions on Fridays, so maybe they’ll release decisions every Friday? It kinda bothered me that a lot of my friends heard back last Friday and I still haven’t.

My daughter still hasn’t heard anything, she’s starting to worry as well. It’s crazy it takes so long to find out what’s going on.

Michigan will release decision up until early April. That is the way it works. Most of the top universities will not issue ANY decisions until the end of March. It is just best to approach this as assuming you will not hear until April, and if you hear before that, great.

@tbhbulls I received my acceptance letter in the mail today.

Hey @whizkid98 thanks for letting me know! I got it today too!

Hi, I got deferred from engineering in Dec but I got an offer for a HAIL interview last month. I will obviously do the interview, but my question is, does that mean I’ll get in if I don’t blow the interview? Does anyone get a HAIL interview and not get in? Thanks!

For everyone that’s been accepted, when you click ‘financial aid summary,’ is there a button for the 2016 school year? Mine used to to have it, but now it just shows 2017 and it won’t let me click it. Does this mean anything? I used to be able to click it and it showed me the scholarships I’ve been awarded. Now it’s not showing anything.

@AcceptableName I noticed the same thing. I used to have a 2016 option, now I have a 2017 option that is not a link. I wonder if notices are being updated. I really hope so because as of yet I have no indication as to how much it will cost.

— Disregard lol

In the same boat. Cannot see details of the financial aid summary anymore Hope we get some good news soon

@jrny2coli yep FA determines whether or not I can go so I’m hoping they are a little more generous this year for OOS students.
