University of Michigan Early Action Class of 2019 Discussion

You can expect it in mid-April but it may be earlier. No way to know if any earlier.

@cnwu15
I havent heard of any rejections, so maybe this first round is only acceptances. I also only know of deferred applicants being accepted, not regular decision applicants.

OOS deferred and then accepted. My SD did send an email of continued interest and an update on new activities. SD did not receive an email back confirming receipt of continued interest email but I’m assuming it was received.

Did you just send your letter of continued interest to the admissions office? Or did you send an email to your regional counselor? Just wondering, because I didn’t have an interview.

@swimmysim you send it to your regional admissions counselor. Also, if you are applying to LSA, its fine because they don’t have interviews.

To anyone already accepted, how long do we wait until we receive our welcome package?

They said it was in the mail (my guess is they mailed it on Friday), so it depends where you live, etc.

@lee6666 My son is very similar - 3 letter varsity athlete, captain of 2 of the teams… Not the typical engineering student in this neck of the woods!

My son’s friend is OOS and just got word he was accepted after being deferred from EA. Great stats, was shocked he was not admitted. He emailed and called several times to profess his interest.

Only problem now is FA…

My son just got around to checking his portal yesterday and found he was accepted to COE after being deferred EA. No email received. OOS, Legacy, 2200 SAT with 800M, Math I 740, Math II 740, Physics 700. GPA 92% at his school, rigorous. Average music.club EC’s, above average athlete, not recruited. Sent an email to his regional rep.

For those accepted, anyone know how to go about financial aid?? I just filed my Fafsa and I’ve already submitted everything else, when can I expect to hear about my FA package??? (The money would be the only thing to keep me from going to umich so I really don’t want it to be a problem)

@Sando97‌ did you also complete the profile? The deadline is April 30,2015. http://www.finaid.umich.edu/Home/tabid/57/Mid/400/ItemID/144/Default.aspx?SkinSrc=%5BG%5DSkins/UMOFA/page

@96blue‌ yes I did, I filed that a long time ago but I filed the FAFSA a couple of days ago

The profile is the CSS profile, which UMich requires for anyone seeking institutional aid. Remember it is a public school, so I wouldn’t expect them to offer what some privates can, especially for someone out of state.

If I already sent in an added interest email back in December, do you not recommend me writing another one to send in one now?

What if you can tell from your regional counselor’s facebook page that they are lazy and hate their job. Who should you contact just in case for continued interest?

COE deffered

ACT 31 - many AP classes - 3.9UW 4.2W - top 3% rank - Cross country all state, 2 time MVP, 2 time Captain, - 2 years varsity and state champion on soccer team - tutoring - normal volunteer stuff

@instate97

Based on my experiences with the public universities, they tended to look for the EC that were closely relating to the intended major. And your EC seemed to focus merely on sports. Again, this was just my observation, and I might be wrong.

Why would ECs have to be closely related to the intended major? They repeatedly state they are looking at the whole picture. A student who is highly successful in school and on the field is a great example of someone who can handle what college throws at them.

@instate and for anyone who hasn’t heard back, I got in CoE after being initially deferred. I did not receive a reply from my territory counselor after I emailed her my letter of interest. However, I talked to live chat and they said to send the letter to the ecredentials email.

@onceuponamom‌ they show you actually have interest in what you want to study. Of course they say they look at the whole picture, but EC’s with respect to your intended major are VERY VERY important, especially as you apply to harder and harder to get into schools.
