University of Michigan Early Action Class of 2019 Discussion

Well, it was logical, as you can see, determined2900 had excellent stats and was deferred, he ends up going to Georgia tech.

@HumNation. I disagree. There are plenty of students who wrote a letter of genuine interest. Most kids do that (if they are genuinely interested). There are tons of kids with much higher stats still waiting to hear. This girl has a 29 or 1990 and a 3.8 GPA. No AP classes submitted (which must mean she didn’t do well). No
SAT II’s. No great EC’s. I’m just confused by all this. It doesn’t make sense.

does any one know how many applicants have accepted accepted their admission offer
also does any one know the expected enrollment for this year as umich is determined this time to reduce its freshman class size ( a proof for which is deferring thousands of applicants in their early round )

You guys might be right that demonstrated interest plays a factor, but my daughter was specifically told by admissions that it did not and even more specifically they did NOT keep track of who comes to visit campus, etc. However, sometimes you have to wonder because the facts don’t always support this theory. We may never know for sure.

Can someone tell us where on the portal (WA) we would see the new “acceptance”? Is it somewhere obvious?

no it says view decision next to application data

@collegemomjam no it says view decision next to application data

Any guess as to the frequency of the “waves” of acceptances?

Will it be any every Friday type of thing?

Is it safe to assume that they will wait to the bitter end for rejections or waitlist decisions??

@adkdad‌ I think it will come in waves of every two weeks. But don’t take my word for it. It will most likely come out on Fridays though.

Those of you that got the “view decision” option next to application data. Where is the application data box? Do you mean “application status”? Does the screen look different? My daughter’s just looks the same from before she was deferred back in December. I’m sure she is still deferred but want to make sure we aren’t missing something! Thanks!

I’m panicking a little bit because I know of about 5 people who were admitted from metro detroit after being deferred. I really hope it’s random or something because my friend and I are still waiting

Also a little confused because a girl with almost identical stats/ECs was admitted from deferral this friday

@collegemomjam, You sign into wolverine access. Click the application status link. If you got accepted, there will be three links, the last link being 'view decision" next to the application data. If you are still deferred, there will be only two links.

EMPire18 - I am seeing the same thing with my Ds WA account.

As much as I hate to admit it, the price tag at UM is more than a bit to swallow…inside I find myself favoring a different outcome than my outward appearance would suggest.

However, I have been prepping my D to seriously consider other schools that she has already been accepted to where the finances are much more within our reach…I just don’t see UM being worth what I am expecting to pay, but have no choice but to wait until all the data is in and hope calmer. reasonable heads will prevail!

Here’s the info in the box when you click applicant status (I tried to cut & paste but formatting messed up horizontal presentation. This gives you the substance, but not the visual).

Am hopeful that good news forthcoming for others on this site soon! I know it is extremely hard to read the tea leaves and make sense of any of this.

Thanks @ackack!

My son (OOS) was accepted to CoE Friday after being deferred. Just some perspective … I think showing continued interest is beneficial, as is a well rounded resume. One’s stats aren’t everything.

After being deferred, my son touched base with his HAIL interviewer to express his disappointment, and the interviewer emailed a CoE admissions contact, who replied to get in touch with the regional admissions counselor right away. He did so, and got an immediate response saying she noted his interest. My son’s mid-year rank and grades are not available until Feb. 20, and although his GPA improved, he had not sent in a mid-year report.

My son’s stats are borderline for engineering: 7.3% rank at competitive public school, 3.75 UW GPA, 4.99 W on 6.0 scale, 30 ACT (33 Math), 1970 SAT (740 Math), 8 APs. However, I believe UM looked at him holistically – 3 Varsity letters, XC team captain, Track team captain, numerous running awards, and Junior Olympics qualifier. Also had the standard NHS, NSHS, Student Council, Robotics, etc. memberships. Attended engineering program at Texas A&M last summer, roughly 80 volunteer hours, job, etc. Excellent recommendation letters. Solid essays. Legacy (I graduated from UM in '82).

I saw someone posted that Admissions said they will be rolling out acceptances over the next 9 weeks, so stay patient. And if it’s really your #1 choice, demonstrate that interest now. Good luck, and Go Blue.

@uofmplease Might be a little on this reply, but I did apply LSA and found out (first) via Wolverine Access where it shows the status of your application next to View Credentials, etc. I also received an email later in the day (as I found out on WA around 8:00 a.m.)

so with acceptances coming in, does this mean that there are rejections coming in, as well?

If I applied Regular Decision on December 11th by when can I expect an admission decision?
