University of Michigan Early Action Class of 2019 Discussion

@JK0919 Well why do you think decisions wouldn’t be released this upcoming friday the 27 but they will be on April 3?

I did not say that it would not be released in 27 of this month. I would rather say mine would be released in April. and pretty sure they already finished with their apps. I do not think that receiving the result in either 27th or 3rd makes any difference at this point.

@America2468‌ they keep saying “early April” and never “late March.” plus there was a large batch around that date last year.

And we will know who are the lucky ones to get in at this last wave. @nat97xo‌ what are your back up schools?

@JK0919 I could be wrong but I think the fact that she emailed you is a good sign. My daughter who has a different counselor emailed her regarding her midterm grades and she replied kind of with a similar tone and my daughter ended up getting in on 2/26. I do think their counselors are very professional and responsive, but she didn’t have to reply to you and the fact that she did makes me optimistic for you. That coupled with the fact that kids from your school with inferior stats got in. I wouldn’t give up hope and good luck! There are definitely more acceptances coming I sincerely doubt they are done.

@collegemomjam or his adcom could have been tired of getting update emails.

At this point is there any chance of getting accepted early april? Deferred

There is a chance yes, otherwise it would mean that all acceptances are out so why would they wait to send all the rejections ?

I think we’re overthinking this. Besides, would it not have made more sense to send out rejections first, so they can get FA ready for those accepted.

I really hope there is still a chance. It is the perfect fit for my child. The only bummer until we know, we have to travel around the country looking at our accepted schools. Very costly!

@billcsho‌ Any insight on what they’re saying about sending rejections later?

What I am thinking is that they have already finshed making our decisions and they just need to release ours in one big wave. Considering OOS usually do not get much FA, I do not think that FA would be such a great matter to them when it comes to release our decisions. Instead, preventing over-enrollment would be their best concern for this year. I heard their overenrollment last year was somewhat disastrous

There have been rejections coming out, but vast majority will come out later as they have been focusing on the admission notice. If you look at the thread from last year, the announcement on 3/28 in a large batch were almost all rejection and waitlist. Nevertheless, there were still some admissions announced in April last year. My friend’s son (in state and legacy with marginal stat) got admitted to LSA near the April 15 deadline. My neighbor even got admitted on 4/30 but for Music School.
There are many changes in the admission process this year though. The admitted student visit (Campus Day) was only scheduled through around mid March last year but a month later this year. This may suggest the whole process has been delayed. So all the speculations based on the previous year may be not relevant. Nevertheless, most applicants I know got their admission notice already. My guess is they have already admitted over 10,000 students (2/3 of the target) from EA and the few rounds of large and small batches of admission notices. With 3 weeks left before the April 15 deadline, it is not likely to have many thousands of admissions left to be announced.

General question: Does UMich admit by major or by school?

@Dhruv97 I believe by school

@billcsho Just curious, do you work in admissions? You seem to have significant insight into the process that UofM is running.

There’s still hope!

How is there still hope when he just mentioned that there’s barely any spots left…?

Would they really have zero acceptances left; doesn’t sound right.

They have been sending out some small numbers of acceptances since the last large batch, and they’ve been sent through the whole week, not just on Friday. There are probably not a lot of spots remaining and the next large release will be sorting most of the remainder into rejected vs wait list. Even if you make the wait list you will need to move on to your second choice school because people won’t hear back about admittances until after May 1.
