Reflection

Strengths: have always gotten good grades, funny guy, various leadership positions
Weaknesses: Didnt take hard enough classes sophomore year to be a very competitive applicant, my senior year grades are gunna hurt me when I have to send them

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Too many good students applied to Michigan
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted to Minnesota, Indiana, and Madison, Rejected from my ED school (Duke) lmao

General Comments: Michigan deferred 7 kids from my school with 33+ ACT, good GPAs, great ECs, and strong leadership
smh

Accepted!! I’m in IB and had a 28 ACT with a 3.7. I work 29 hours a week and live in a single parent house hold with 2 other siblings. Hopefully I get some money from Michigan to attend! But this is awesome!!

@shmosby Thanks for the info! It doesn’t really make it clear in the email whether the grades are required. I don’t think my son’s first semester grades will help him, so maybe best to just let the application be what it is. Best of luck to you.

violet4 in the deferral email i received it said that you should send in your 7th semester grades. I don’t think they make it mandatory where if you don’t send them you won’t be considered for admission, but i think they’re just looking for more information so definitely send them!

@daxgrl351‌ Sorry if I didn’t make it clear, I withdrew my app from uMich last Friday after I got into JHU, but still got an email from uMich today for deferral.

2 questions that I would really appreciate if someone can answer: first, how would I be able to show my interest in UMich and the fact that I’m committed? Is there someone I can email and what should I say in that email? Second question (technically third), if I didn’t put some of my ECs on my app or if I became part of new ones after submitting the app, should I email them to admissions?? Thank you in advance, help would be much appreciated!!

Accepted!! So happy!! (Out Of State!)

4.0 UW GPA, 4.0+ W (don’t know exact, sorry!), 31 ACT, President of the Italian Club, National Honor Society member, SADD member, Long Island Toy Lending club member, START member. A lot of community service/volunteer work, and work experience at a pizzeria (done for free for all 4 high school years). Very personal common app essay (about my life & things I’ve gone through that helped shape me as a person) and great supplements, also great letters of recommendation!

Congrats to everyone else who got in!! Go Blue!

Also, to those of you who got deferred, I feel for you & I hope you guys get in RD! I got rejected from Cornell ED but this has totally lifted my spirits up

Accepted!!! OOS (KS) 31 ACT, 3.77 gpa (10 APS)

I found that there used to be three letters of deferral past few years.

Everyone knows that there are three types of deferral letters for ER applicants.
I know that the first one is the best; someone who had received the first one got in just within 2 weeks.
How about the second and the last one?
Which one do you think implies a greater chance?
I got the last one just now.
I am sure these have been discussed for thousands of times already, but I am really really anxious

All opinions are welcome~

Because it is important that we receive these grades as soon as possible, please request to have a PDF of your completed semester or second trimester grades sent from the issuing institution to our office via an e-transcript vendor or to ecredentials@umich.edu if possible.
I mean, those are pretty much old letters. But seems like they have significant differences.
I also heard that those who get the first letter (which seems similar to what I got) were accepted.

Hope this would help and let me know what other letters those who swim in the limbo get.
and those who are accepted, congratulation! I know this seems tedious but I am so desperate.

I’ve compiled a fair bit of data on this, @JK0919, and it’s all inconclusive. All you know is that you’re deferred. You can’t make a good judgment about your chances on the basis of the wording.

It seems like there’s a lot more of the 1st letter, and not many other letters this year. Who did not get the first letter here?

Are all these acceptances legitimate? Or is there a possibility of them pulling the Hopkins?

A little late but deferred OOS ACT 34, UW GPA 4.0, multiple extracurriculars and leadership roles. So

@scalia13‌ I did not

True. My letter says that “Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require.” It sounds like they are going to make decision based upon my first semester grade. I am just feeling content that actually my first semster grade would help anyway
1 out of 24 and my average was 98.2. @Finnlet‌

Reposting cuz I really need answers

Does anyone know the percent admittance after deferral? My letter was the erica one

I called and made sure my acceptance was legitimate

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: I was deferred at UChicago (which is where I really want to go), and I had to apply to the rest of my schools RD so I don’t know yet.

General Comments: Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted! But, if you were deferred, I would not be too worried, because when I called the undergrad office to ask if I had a place in the RC, which was not indicated on my letter, she said that many highly qualified people were deferred!

@5melissa1234‌ Can you post what your letter said??
