University of Michigan Early Action Class of 2019 Discussion

@iliveinmumbai I applied Jan 9th for COE and received their reception e-mail 4 days later.

Thanks @meriks I will contact them today…

Hey guys could use some advice or something! So I was just about to send another email to my regional counselor about continued interest since she never replied to the one I sent December 26. But today I just got an email from Kelly Cox (the associate director) who gave me the automated “we had a record number of early action apps, we expect to release final decisions by april, yada yada.” She didn’t say she would make note of my interest though. Should I still reach out to my regional counselor again? Also, why would Kelly Cox respond and not my regional counselor?

be careful if you decide to email “her” because Kelly looks like a guy to me. Follow above link for a photo.

Yeah I would say Kelly is a guy

What does that mean? If you were deferred in dec, you will know by Feb 1st if you have a 2nd chance at getting in?

No, you could hear as soon as then if you were accepted as a deferred applicant @calspeed

Don’t the current applicants and deferred applicants go back into one pool?

Is it like starting over again?

@calspeed No, if I’m not mistaken being an early applicant does give you a slight advantage.

I remember it being posted last week that we might hear again tomorrow, this is probably false right?

If this was true, that would be great. To hear anytime soon before we have to look at alternate schools would be wonderful. would love to know either way. fingers crossed.

Unlikely tomorrow, 30th more likely. By then it will give them a good gauge of the competitiveness with the RD applicants and to give time for the deferred students to submit their MYR.

Deferred ED and RD are on the same level of evaluation. Neither has an advantage. Deferred ED candidates should think of themselves as part of the RD pool of candidates.

First of all, it is early action, not early decision.
Admissions ask deferred applicants to send them a letter of continual interest. Why would they ask for a letter if they see EA and RD applicants the same?

Would the new decision for deferred applicants also come by email?

feb 1 even though it’s a sunday?

And some people are saying that everyone hears at the same time but last year deferred people heard at the end of January and February, with all letters being sent mid-march

@EMpire18 - yeah sorry, I typed wrong, I know its EA. But, when did they ask the deferred EA applicants to send a letter of continued interest? If they did, it would have an impact on those with the highest stats only, as they were potentially deferred only as a yield saver. Those are the ones that will get accepted first - likely late Jan - early Feb. The remaining pool will hear after and many won’t hear until mid-April (and that can mean into the week of 4/20).

I emailed my rep yesterday expressing interest… Someone told me that it wasn’t the best thing to do so late.
Will this affect me?

Can someone provide a link to the fact that 2018 EA decisions were released early? end of Jan/early Feb? I just don’t see the evidence. Thanks!

And were these applicants emailed? or did it just appear suddenly in their Wolverine accounts?
